Directed by Nicole Kidman, this film follows the story of an attractive young woman named Marley (Kate Hudson) who is living that quintessential, fast-paced American lifestyle. She’s incredibly career-driven, which I suppose leads her to shy away from any real emotional attachments. Because she’s constantly running at such a frantic pace, Marley starts losing weight quite rapidly, prompting her friends to suggest she see a specialist just to be safe. It’s there that she meets a doctor (Gael Garcia Bernal), and I guess you could say that one single encounter ends up completely reshaping the entire trajectory of her life...

So, I watched it, and I have to say, it wasn't bad—not that it was anything groundbreaking or particularly spectacular, perhaps, but it really is a touching, rather poignant little story about life, illness, and love.
I think Kate Hudson is just wonderful when she plays these sort of high-strung, eccentric characters. However, I must admit that Gael Garcia Bernal didn't quite work for me; he seems much younger than her in this film. He looks like he's maybe twenty, even though he's supposed to be a doctor, whereas she looks to be about twenty-five or twenty-six.
Spoiler alert—I found myself feeling a bit disappointed that the movie didn't dwell more on their time together, and maybe it could have done a better job showing her actual happiness while she was with him, or what she truly loved about being in love.
My rating would be a 9/10.
