I’m writing this because I really want to reach out to all of you and ask you to please stop buying those fried dough bites from the street vendors down in downtown Chicago or along the pier. Most of these workers don't even have basic health permits, they're working in totally unsanitary conditions, and honestly, that chocolate drizzle you think you're getting is basically just cheap oil mixed with a tiny bit of Nutella? They aren't even changing the oil in the deep fryers throughout the day; they just keep reusing old grease and mixing it with new stuff. The fact that they're hiring undocumented workers just to cut corners shows you exactly where their priorities lie—they don't care about quality, they just want to squeeze every cent out of people by exploiting cheap labor and ripping off customers.

Look, we all know fast food on the go isn't great for us anyway, but at this rate, you might actually be doing some serious damage to your health

So, how exactly is one serving of fried dough made in yesterday's oil seriously going to wreck our health? 😕 I mean, if you’re eating deep-fried junk every single day, sure—fine. But two helpings of fritters over the course of two months... what kind of actual damage are we talking about here?

(It's basically the same logic as mixing Nutella with oil, right?)

The thing is, certain regulars hit up that specific spot every single day, and if you're getting a heavy coating of oil from food fried in yesterday's batch on a daily basis, yeah, you could actually be doing some real damage to your health.

I'm not even talking about the random walk-ins, though I wouldn't personally recommend they eat there either.

Wait, how so?

Alright, let's say someone eats about half a pound of fried dough made in burnt-up oil every day for two months straight—what kind of actual damage are we talking about here? 🤷

Besides, why on earth would anyone buy oil labeled as "chocolate"?

And you're getting it from workers who don't even have basic health permits

in a shop that doesn't even have running water for washing hands—they just wipe everything down with wet wipes...

Alright, let's play out a scenario here—say someone goes on a two-month streak of eating nearly a pound of donuts fried in burnt oil every single day... what kind of real-world damage are we actually looking at? 🤷

Don't look to me for those answers, go ask a doctor. 😉

wow, what a brilliant comeback 👍

so basically, you have zero clue what you're talking about—you're just out for blood because you want to get back at the owner of those spots (who, by the way, nobody in this city likes except for some corrupt local politician 😉 ) just because you got canned 👍

so basically you don't have a clue and you're just out here trying to get revenge on the owner of those spots (who, by the way, is someone nobody except the mayor thinks highly of 😉) just because you got fired 👍

nice try, but I never even worked there—it was actually one of my buddies, and they're still there pulling in the big bucks, so I really don't give a damn about any of this other than the fact that I refuse to pay $5.00 for straight-up garbage food

I know exactly what's going on, and honestly, if you can't see how eating daily stuff made with the cheapest oil you can find at a local Walmart, mixed with Nutella, fried in dirty equipment by unmonitored staff, using oil that’s been reused for up to 18 hours straight without a break, is wrecking your health... then you've got a serious problem... most people won't notice right away, but some have already felt the consequences

Those are some heavy accusations you're throwing out there. Are you actually prepared to stand up in a courtroom and say all of this under oath with your full legal name if the owner of that establishment decides to sue you for defamation?

Jack Booth5 said:They don't just swap out the fryer oil all day long—it gets mixed with the fresh stuff the next day.

What you’re pointing out is, unfortunately, the standard operating procedure for a lot of places—hardly a secret, really. I suppose I don't know if business owners have started paying more attention lately, but anyone who lives on pre-packaged, fried, or breaded junk—everything from the local fast-food chains and popcorn stands to the McDonald's drive-thru or those greasy burger joints outside a football stadium—already knows the deal. They aren't expecting top-tier ingredients processed under pristine hygienic conditions; they're buying unhealthy food from the jump. Besides, everyone indulges occasionally, right? It's nothing new—nothing new, as Frank Sinatra might say.

From what I can gather, they sound like some sort of pastries filled with anthracite and cyclone dust...

It’s a bit difficult—if I can even call it that—to overlook one of the most iconic and traditional American treats. ☕

And there's bourbon, too.

...I was trying to figure out why I felt so miserable after eating that flatbread at the state fair. I ended up crawling home in actual pain, and since I’d been drinking too, I was basically just vomiting pure grease. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone... now I'm just sticking to mulled wine 🙂
...assuming that doesn't poison me too...

Street food is already junk, but buying it under these conditions can actually be a serious threat to your health.

I don't see any major side effects beyond that, though sensitive people might deal with some GI issues like nausea, diarrhea, or stomach cramps—especially if you're someone who struggles with greasy foods.

I agree, those stalls look pretty unhygienic to me, and the oil smells rancid. I wouldn't touch anything there, though I can see why people are making those points.

Oh, I'm absolutely ready if it really comes down to that, you know? But if it doesn't, I guess I'll just keep hiding behind my screen on this forum, haha.

Jack Booth5 said:I am writing this post to issue a sincere appeal to every single one of you: please, refrain from buying those fried dough treats at the local street markets or along the busy sidewalks of downtown Chicago. The vast majority of these vendors lack any kind of valid health permit, they operate under conditions that are frankly unsanitary, and that chocolate glaze you think you’re eating is nothing more than cheap vegetable oil mixed with a tiny bit of Nutella. Furthermore, the oil used for frying these treats isn't even changed throughout the day; they simply mix old, dirty oil with a little bit of new oil the next morning. This deep-seated dissatisfaction among undocumented workers directly compromises the quality of what you eat, because their sole objective is to maximize profit by exploiting cheap labor and deceiving unsuspecting consumers.

The fast food you grab on the go is already unhealthy enough, but consuming items prepared this way can pose a genuine threat to your physical well-being.

It is blindingly obvious that you are simply looking for a way to tear someone else down, and I should remind you that people are far too intelligent to be fooled by such tactics.
You claimed that this is all about exploited labor, yet moments later you mentioned that your acquaintance selling these treats is actually making quite a handsome profit. Either you are consumed by jealousy, or you are truly, deeply concerned about the public's health—though I find it impossible to believe the latter. I simply cannot grasp why you are harboring such intense bitterness toward a simple snack when we all know there are countless other things out there that are far more detrimental to one's health.
People enjoy these treats as a decadent indulgence, and I can assure you they aren't overeating them.
And I would strongly advise you to be much more cautious with your words, as it is remarkably easy to figure out who you are. Young man, I would highly recommend that you focus on your own affairs and leave everyone else alone. ☕
