Local anesthetics: What's your experience?

What kind of local anesthetics can I pick up around here?
I need it for a little DIY surgery.
I know they have Orajel for infants and adults overseas, but I’m not sure if it's available in the States. I really don't feel like wandering around pharmacies, so if anyone knows where to find it in Los Angeles, let me know.
