I need some serious advice here—I’m looking to pick up a color laser printer, but let's be real, I don't have the budget for something brand new. I'm hunting for a solid used machine, ideally one capable of handling decent resolution for images. My old Konica Xerox was absolutely fantastic—it practically printed like a dedicated photo printer—but it finally kicked the bucket. It prints the first page just fine, then jams on the second and dies. I can't figure out what's wrong; even the repair shop is stumped. They're guessing it's a motor issue related to the paper feed, but honestly, I'm just frustrated because that machine was perfect.
I've put together a short list of options I'm looking at, so tell me which way to go. If you know of anything better, please speak up—my total budget is around $220.

-Lexmark
-Xerox, an older model and a step down from my previous one, though it hasn't seen much use
-Xerox, but it needs a new black toner cartridge
-Lexmark, a newer model, but it'll cost me more
-Lexmark, I'd grab this one in a heartbeat, but it's pricey and massive since it handles A3
-HP, a bit higher price point, but comes with free toner

So, what's the move?
I haven't really looked into Samsung or Apple or any other brands yet.
If there's anyone here who actually knows their stuff, please give me some guidance. I want to maximize my savings on toner without sacrificing print quality.
Most of my work consists of colored text with the occasional image thrown in.
😕🤷🙄

My old Konica Xerox broke down on me; it prints the first page just fine, but then it jams on the second and won't go. Even the repair shop is stumped—they're guessing it might be a paper feed motor issue. Man, I loved that thing though; the print quality was basically like a photo printer.
I've put together a little shortlist, so let me know which one you think I should grab. If you know of something better out there, please shout. I've got about $220 to work with.

-Lexmark C532dn
-Xerox older model, slightly worse than my old one and hasn't been printed on much
-Xerox needs a new black toner cartridge
-Lexmark C 762, newer model but a bit pricier
-Lexmark C920, I'd grab this instantly but it's expensive and pretty huge since it does A3
-HP with free toners, but the price is a little high

Which way should I go?
I haven't really looked into Samsung or Apple or any other brands.
If anyone knows their stuff, please give me some advice. I want to save as much as possible on toner while still getting the best print quality.
Mostly printing colored text and the occasional photo.

Personally, I'd go for the Lexmark C532 if the machine itself is in good shape. Just keep in mind that a single replacement toner will run you about $153 plus tax. It feels steep, but compared to buying a new HP or whatever, the cost is similar—except you're getting 160g of toner instead of the tiny 35-55g you get with the new ones.

Otherwise, check out the Lexmark C920.

Maybe this helps someone else out too.
The HP is a monochrome printer, not color. Don't compare apples to oranges.

Sure, a single replacement toner might cost you $153 plus tax—which feels steep—but when you compare it to buying a brand-new HP or whatever else is out there, the math changes. You're getting 160g of toner versus the measly 35–55g you get with the new stuff.

Then there's the Lexmark C920

Maybe someone else finds that useful.
The HP LaserJet 1320 isn't even a color printer. Let's not compare apples to oranges here.

My bad, you're right.
The HP LaserJet 1320n isn't a color unit...
Lexmark is definitely more budget-friendly than the rest, but what are your thoughts on those Minolta machines I mentioned?

Lexmark seems way cheaper than everything else, but what do you guys think about those Minoltas I mentioned?

I haven't really messed around with those Minoltas before.

You gotta watch out with them. It's super easy to run into issues where all the vital parts are worn out because those toners were huge for refilling. Plus, they use a carousel system, which honestly feels like pretty outdated tech.

Basically, you can't expect decent color prints from them compared to actual color lasers.

They're strictly for B&W.

You really have to watch your step with those machines—it’s incredibly easy to pick up a unit where every single critical component is already worn down, simply because they were such popular choices for toner refilling operations. Besides, it uses a carousel system, which—let's be honest—is pretty outdated tech.

Bottom line? Their color output just can't compete with actual color lasers.

The only thing they're good for is B&W.

So, what's the actual difference between
the Lexmark C530dn and the C532dn?
Is the Lexmark C762 better than those two? I've got a solid offer on my desk, and I've decided to pass on both the Milton Friedman and the HP models.
I'm getting great deals on toner, and even the Canon EOS color laser is looking cheap.
