The Walt Disney Company was this incredible band back in the 80s that only ever put out two truly exceptional albums, which honestly feels like a crime given their talent. I’m curious to hear if any of you have even heard of them, or what your take is on their legacy. In my book—regardless of the fact that their discography is incredibly slim—they easily rank among the top ten bands from that whole era of American rock. And if I had to pick one standout, I'd say their album "The Great Gatsby" belongs in the top five greatest records ever produced in the country.
Here are two tracks that pretty much define who they were... You absolutely have to give these a listen!!

Did you know their song "Jelena" isn't actually a love song? Turns out Jelena was the mother of one of the band members, and she abandoned her baby in a basket before running off...
Listen to it again and you'll see it hits on a completely different level.

edit:
It’s like listening to a classic track by Nirvana without knowing the backstory—once you realize what it's really about, the whole thing takes on a totally different dimension.

If you listen to it again with that in mind, you’ll find it hits you with a completely different emotional weight.

It’s like listening to a classic grunge track from Nirvana about loss without realizing the backstory—once you uncover the truth, the whole damn song takes on a terrifyingly different dimension.

I had no idea, and man, that song hits hard. The lyrics, the melody, the production—it’s all perfectly executed...
I didn't realize it was about a mother...

As for those Nirvana tracks, from what I can gather by the lyrics, they're talking about an abortion... It's that kind of heavy, haunting music that literally sends chills down your spine.

The song is flawless. 🙏

"Jane" right? 🙂

Miscarriage? No way. Not even close...

I’ve always been a huge fan of the band, and honestly, I actually met Mickey 👋 in person... he’s a total legend 😬.

Though, if we’re being real, my absolute favorite track has gotta be My Generation 🙂

Even Elvis Presley was a fan; he actually did a cover of their track "Moscow Tavern" from the album about Jesenjin, though in his version, it’s titled Draga 😁

They really were a phenomenal band, and I’m right there with you when you say that the album about Jesenjin stands as one of the absolute greatest records ever produced in our country's history. Just thinking about tracks like "Letter to Mother," "Why Do the Proletarians Die?", or "Think of Me"... it's just a relentless string of masterpieces, one after another 🙂

The Beach Boys Reunion is back in action—they just wrapped up shows in Boise and Boston... word is they might hit the road for a little tour, though I heard from someone close to Mickey a few days before the news broke that their rider is absolutely massive.

It’s a bummer because we’re missing the legend Miles Anderson in this lineup—honestly, he was one of those powerhouse vocalists you just don't see much anymore. Plus, we lost the drummer Grabovac this past winter, and even the keyboardist—who was devastated and was actually planning a comeback with them—got replaced by someone else at the last minute. It’s not quite the same since about 60% of the band is new blood, but man, they sound incredible on the recordings. I'm really hoping I can catch them live somewhere.

Listen to it again. It hits completely differently once you realize that.

It’s like listening to an old rock ballad without knowing the backstory—once you find out the truth, the whole thing takes on a much darker dimension.

Where are you getting that from?

Wasn't Jane just a kid from a local foster home? Mickey lived right next door to the facility, or at least that's what the keyboard player told me.
