My mouse cursor is drifting on its own

So, for the last few days, my mouse has been acting totally possessed on my laptop—it just drifts up and down on its own. I'm trying to figure out if this is some weird macOS bug or if I've actually picked up a virus or something.

but it's weird as hell—when I move the mouse up on my own, the down arrow key on my keyboard just stops working, like it's totally locked out.

Have you ever thought about just swapping out the mouse entirely to see if that fixes things?

If we're talking about an optical mouse,
a little bit of dust shouldn't be such a massive deal.

The fix? Just give it a good blow or try cleaning it out with something like a makeup brush.. 😁
