I’m asking this generally because the math just isn't mathing for me here.

Just picture this scenario

Say I rack up 100 points on my rewards card and get hit with a 3-day suspension because of them (and those points stay valid for a month),

and then about 15 days later, I hit another 100 points—so 200 total—and suddenly I'm slapped with a 7-day ban? It makes zero sense since I already served the time for those first 100 points!!!

The general idea here is just to watch how you carry yourself so those bans don't start "happening" to you unexpectedly.
Once you hit that 200-point mark, you're looking at a three-day suspension
and it's the same deal at 300,
and again at 400.
That being said, the moderator actually has the discretion to just hand out a direct ban if they notice someone is relentlessly pushing the same tired narrative, depending on how much they think that person might actually succeed in causing trouble.

At 200 points, you're looking at a 3-day suspension, too.
Same goes for 300,
and 400.
But look, a moderator can just drop a direct ban if they see someone constantly running the same broken record, depending on how much trouble they think that person's trying to cause.

Yeah, I get it, I agree.

I was just saying the point accumulation thing makes zero sense if you already served a ban at 100 points. Like, you can't be sitting at 200 total if you've already hit that first limit—it basically resets back to 100 when you mess up again!

it's basically like being in prison

first you get hit with 5 years and you actually serve the full 5, then you mess up again and grab another 2 years on top, so you're doing 7 total instead of just getting one flat sentence😉

Larry Walker24 said:it’s basically like serving time in a federal penitentiary

first you pull a five-year stretch and you serve those five years, then you go out and mess up again and end up pulling another two, so you're looking at seven total, rather than some massive stacked sentence where everything just piles on top of itself all at once.😉

You're totally overlooking probation. 😉 You know, how if someone violates the terms of their release or gets caught up in more legal trouble, that whole deal can get revoked and turned straight into actual prison time.😬

Yeah, I get it. I'm just saying this whole point accumulation thing makes zero sense. If a strike only lasts a month, it should just expire along with the ban. 😉

If you’re looking at this strictly through the lens of handing out warnings and bans, then sure, I guess you’ve got a point there
but what if we actually focus on what constitutes acceptable behavior here??
Nobody wakes up in the morning with the grand ambition of handing out reprimands or banning people from the board, but we all share the same goal of learning how to talk to one another without the constant insults and cheap shots.
The folks who just can't seem to grasp that end up racking up those penalty points until they hit the thousand mark and—*poof*—they're gone.
Meanwhile, you've got other users who have been posting for years without ever seeing a single warning.

nobody wakes up wanting to hand out strikes or kick people off the site, but we all want a place where we can talk without everyone being a jerk or constant trolls
the people who can't figure that out just rack up points until they hit that 1000 mark and *poof*—they're gone
meanwhile, you've got other users posting for years without ever catching a single flag

that's exactly where the focus should be

look, I get it, chief. I know you guys aren't out to hunt down users for fun! 😉🙂

I know plenty of "drivers" who have been on the road for years without picking up a single ticket, but honestly? I wouldn't trust most of them to ride a bicycle, let alone handle a car. 🥳

I honestly find it hard to believe they were even looking for you
but look, however you slice it, getting hit with a fine is still a hell of a lot better than totaling your car somewhere, especially if you start applying that logic to a few thousand units...

Larry Walker24 said:He was basically pointing out that stacking points doesn't really make sense if someone has already been banned for 100 points, because you can't suddenly hit a total of 200 if they just get hit with another 100!

Haha, honestly, I wouldn't go that route myself. We definitely need to be way tougher on those habitual offenders who just keep coming back!😬

Anyway, does anyone know where I can find the breakdown of how long a suspension lasts based on the point threshold? I know I 😬read this somewhere once, but I am totally blanking on where it was located.
(The search bar isn't being very helpful either—it seems to pull up everything from the entire Terms of Service whenever I type in "suspension duration.")
If my memory serves me right, a 500-point penalty actually lasted a shorter amount of time than, say, a 100-point one. If I'm remembering correctly, why on earth would that be the case?

You can actually find that right up there in the FAQ section...

Same for 300.
And 400.

Total nonsense. Even stupider is keeping your points after a ban—so if someone hits you with another 10-point violation, you're right back in the gray zone. Makes you wonder what points you were even working off during those three days.

But that’s exactly the point of this thread.

It’s funny how we all jump to conclusions so quickly, isn't it? I was sitting here thinking about it, and while I might be a little too optimistic for my own good, I truly believe that if we just take a breath and look at the bigger picture, everything will sort itself out eventually. Even if I am a bit of a dreamer, I can't help but feel like we're all heading in the right direction, despite the occasional bump in the road!

crimsonsailor7 said:If you take a quick peek at the FAQ section up above, you'll find exactly what you're looking for!

Hey there, you two!

So, if anyone else happens to be feeling extra generous and wants to walk me through that other question... for instance, why on earth does it work like that? I honestly feel like we’ve hit a bit of a rough patch lately where people are getting a little too personal with one another, and while I’m usually the first person to laugh at my own clumsy mistakes, it feels like the tone around here has shifted toward some unnecessary insults! It would be so much more wonderful if we could all just get back to that friendly, upbeat energy we used to have, because honestly, life is just way too short to spend our time being unkind to each other on an internet forum. So, if you manage to pull off a 45-point run while that penalty stays active, you're looking at... Sixty days have flown by already! It looks like you might have cut off mid-sentence there! I'm all ears and ready to jump back into the conversation whenever you're ready to finish that thought. What was on your mind? Well, someone decided to get a little bit out of line and throw some seriously nasty insults at our community members today! It’s honestly such a bummer when things take a turn like this, because I always try to stay on the bright side, but wow, that was just plain rude. Let's all just take a deep breath and remember we're here to be decent to one another, okay? I honestly can’t believe I’m actually looking at this right now, but it looks like we might be heading toward a cool little bonus where you can snag 500 points just for sticking around through the duration of the card! Just twenty days to go! I can hardly believe how quickly the time is flying by, but I am genuinely getting so excited for what's coming up!Honestly, I’d probably just end up throwing myself at him, too!
I mean, I totally get that hitting 500 points comes with a seven-day ban attached to it, but I’m still sitting here scratching my head over why the warning itself doesn't seem to last quite as long!

Matthew Anderson4, nobody is handing you a ban just for the hell of it; you earned that one all by yourself
maybe try actually thinking about that for a second?

Emily Kim67, I’m assuming the whole idea was that someone eventually loses their cool, goes overboard, and ends up getting hit with a seven-day timeout just to let them chill out
heavy insults don't happen all that often, and if they did, a moderator would easily step in if they saw someone repeatedly breaking the rules and just deal with that problematic user manually

The idea is actually great. The whole point is to make you actually watch how you act, rather than just serving a sentence and going right back to your old ways.

maybe give that some thought?

Thought about it. Suggest you do the same. If I already sat out three days for 100 points, staying out another three for the exact same reward doesn't make sense.

And I don't buy that you always earn it on your own.
