MasterChef thread and moderation are the same

Look, I’m really not one of those people who spends all day tearing through different subreddits just to complain that a moderator didn't delete or ban someone within five seconds, but what's happening in the MasterChef thread has finally pushed me over the edge 😳 and I am, you know, a pretty peaceful person 🙂
For several weeks now, on this thread, someone has been relentlessly posting spoilers about who gets eliminated and who will ultimately win, even though the title explicitly says spoilers are banned. Everyone in the thread is already assuming it's the same person constantly creating new accounts just to ruin the show for everyone else. Can't we just issue a permanent ban or something so this person is completely blocked from posting in this thread?
Secondly, if the moderators are interested, the last 15 pages have been so full of trolling and fighting that I actually felt nauseous while reading 🙄
For example:

I get the feeling modern gastronomy is following the path of the gay revolution. Tiny, overly decorated little bites meant for old ladies.

I'm looking at the TV network's site right now; they have five or six moderators, so is ambermason16 really the only one responsible for this thread? Can't anyone else step in and do something?

If you’re asking me, I would have shut this thread down ages ago. It’s just an endless stream of spoilers that are already being blasted across every single news outlet and social media feed out there. Yet, here we are, trying to be accommodating by banning mentions of things that have been discussed a thousand different ways through a thousand different ingredients... and somehow, it’s still not enough for everyone. Honestly, I haven't seen this much unnecessary tension in a space that's supposed to be about pure enjoyment. Cooking makes me happy; I love experimenting with new recipes and finding inspiration. It doesn't turn me into a mass murderer. Personally, seeing this topic even exist gets under my skin, but hey, that's just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

I genuinely don't get what people expect from us here. What's the actual problem?

Some people can’t even watch a show without getting worked up over the teasers for the next episode. Personally, thank God I’m a little slow because I rarely catch on to those things, but since CNN works so hard to make their previews incredibly obvious, some folks pick up on it immediately. Then they feel this unbearable urge to bring it up at least ten times in a single thread. Honestly, I just don't get it 😕. On top of that, they start linking articles, posting images, or using white text—which, by the way, means nobody can actually read it. It's just mindless. Then you have a few lunatics register (like that Unknown person or whatever her name is) who openly admit they’re just bored at work, so they proceed to spam and troll ten pages with two-sentence posts (of course, the "edit" button is basically science fiction to them).
Obviously, people aren't going to talk exclusively about cooking, since it's a reality show where you naturally develop feelings for or against the contestants, but obsessing over whether the food in the next episode is seasoned correctly? That's a bit much for me.

I am fully in support of this request. To be honest, I’ve started stepping away from this thread myself because of all the spoilers and leaks—and I don't even mean the stuff coming from CNN, but rather things I've heard through the grapevine from friends of friends. Don't even get me started on those last ten pages. On top of that, there’s this constant threat that the thread will be shut down if we report anyone for spoiling the show. What is the point of having a moderator if a polite request just gets met with, "I'd honestly rather just close this entire topic"? It feels completely pointless. 🤷

...look...I just wiped 150 posts from a few different threads...150 fucking posts. Compared to you guys, Big Brother looks like a toddler. As for those spoilers? Fine, if it's coming from a friend of a friend or some kid pulling cables on set—yeah, we can call that a spoiler. But give me a break; we can't punish everyone for everything when CNN basically does it constantly in their own previews...🤷

It feels pretty ridiculous to police people for spoilers when major networks and news sites are constantly flooding the internet with them anyway. 🤷

So, what I do—avoiding trailers before and after the show, staying away from clickbait sites, not even picking up a copy of People—it’s all for nothing. Because the second I decide to hop on a forum to discuss an episode, I’m immediately at risk of seeing things like "he's definitely going home tomorrow," "they're cooking pork next time, it'll be great," or "this celebrity guest is appearing."

Is the actual show really so dull that you can only ever talk about what hasn't happened yet?

The thing is, we get hit with mountains of reports every single day. I sit down at my computer, log on, check the report queue, and see 180 notifications—only to find out 45 of those are people relentlessly reporting spoilers for MasterChef. These are things that have already been leaked a thousand different ways across three different types of media. It’s infuriating.

We tried to strike a compromise to cool everyone down by banning posts about stuff that was already "out there," just in case someone hadn't seen it or read it yet... but let’s be real, that’s nonsense. Who is going to police that?

If you’re unhappy with information being leaked ahead of time, aim your fire at the MasterChef production crew or CNN (they're right behind them). This isn't on Reddit. If some guy was eating fries while watching a show, saw who’s moving on to the next episode during a commercial break, and posted about it—that’s not our fault.

Updates regarding the show's progress and what happens to the contestants are constantly being dumped into the world in massive quantities across multiple outlets. Someone seeing that info and sharing it here might be accused of being spiteful, but they aren't a spoiler.

CNN clearly designed this show with those kinds of teasers and spoilers in mind. 🤷

I watch MasterChef regularly and follow the threads on Reddit, and honestly, those spoilers don't bother me one bit.
The main reason I tune in is for the cooking—to learn something new or maybe pick up a decent recipe along the way.
Whether some guy is acting out or what Matthew says about his grandmother is at the very bottom of my list of concerns. 🤷

I’d love to actually follow the recipes, but the reality is they barely show any actual cooking. It shouldn't be about fifty different people making a couple of comments here and there—it should be about showing what's being made and how...

Personally, I wouldn't mind if people discussed stuff they saw in official promos, provided the moderators explicitly state that those trailers aren't considered spoilers. Problem solved. What I *don't* get is why everyone gets so worked up over reports about actual spoilers—like "so-and-so is the winner"—especially when it's coming from the exact same user, like Newton, who just waits for their ban to expire and then crawls right back into the thread to ruin everything on purpose.
So, just set some firm rules on what constitutes a spoiler and stick to them. Don't ignore the legitimate reports of people actually spoiling the show; it's not our fault when certain people decide to be malicious.

The mods really need to nail down what counts as a spoiler and actually make it clear to everyone on the board. Until they do, I don't see much point in even discussing it.

In my opinion, the way ambermason16 is handling herself in that thread is just totally uncalled for—honestly pretty offensive and clearly uninformed.

Maybe it’s finally time for the site to roll out spoiler tags, so people can hide certain stuff until you actually click to reveal it.

That is exactly what I was going to suggest!

In my opinion, it would be perfect—especially since this white background is kind of a pain when I'm browsing on my phone. xD

Plus, just typing out SPOILER doesn't really do much if the actual spoiler is just one quick sentence—our brains and eyes don't quite work that way, so you can easily catch that one word and still accidentally scan everything right after it.

If someone writes: SPOILER the main character dies at the end

you might walk away thinking they didn't ruin anything for you.

A proper spoiler tag would be fantastic—if you want to see it, click to open; if you don't, you don't have to.😉
