So, here’s my situation... I’ve come down with salmonella, and my doctor basically put me on this super strict diet of plain boiled rice, light soups, mashed potatoes, toast, and maybe some crackers. I’ve been stuck eating nothing but that and rosehip tea for about five days now, which is just exhausting. As far as fruit goes, I’m apparently only allowed to have bananas, which is honestly driving me crazy since I’m the type of person who usually snacks on fruit all day long. I guess I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s anything else I can actually eat that might taste a little better, or am I seriously stuck eating this bland stuff for who knows how much longer? 😢

You could always try some grated apple, maybe one that’s a little overripe...

Thanks so much, ladies! 🙂

I was also wondering, maybe I could just stick to some homemade apple juice instead?

If anyone else happens to have any other suggestions, please feel free to throw them my way... 🙂

I think you can pull through, especially since you've been sick for five days already...
I was taking that too!

I actually had some of that too!

Well, if I consider that I basically just stuck to broth for those first couple of days, then I guess I’ve kind of been following the diet halfway.

My doctor did tell me to stay away from juice, soda, and coffee... just stick to rosehip tea and water. And she suggested eating tiny little bites every hour or so just so I don't completely run out of steam.

But honestly, I feel like homemade apple juice is pretty much the same thing as just eating an old apple or something. 😁😛

Take a look at this—people living with IBD (like Crohn's or Colitis) basically fight a constant battle against diarrhea every single day.

I agree, especially if it's a nasty case of Salmonella.
I've had to take antibiotics myself because of some intestinal inflammation, but honestly, some of the meal options they served me at the hospital were a bit of a shock...😳

do you have a fever?

So, I took a look at it. Honestly, I’m kind of thinking about maybe trying just a tiny bit of tuna, since cheese always makes me feel pretty gross, so I probably can't go that route, unfortunately.
Do you think it might be doable for me to follow this a little bit?

do you have a fever right now?

As of right now, I don't have a fever. I did have one a few days ago, though, reaching about 99.5.

Do you think I could stick to this a little?

Tuna is pretty fatty, honestly I’d pass. But maybe some cod or another white fish baked in foil? 😉
I'm not a fan of peach compote in those nutrition charts, but everything else looks pretty solid.

Seriously, thanks so much for all the advice. 🙂

I am honestly just so hungry right now that I feel like I can't even deal anymore. Today I made myself a little warm grilled cheese sandwich, and then I had my usual lunch which was basically just some toast, a bit of pasta, and I figured I should probably grab a tiny bit of tuna too.
I think I might actually go look for some dairy-free cheese later today, and as far as fruit goes, I just eat whatever is around—mostly just a mix of bananas and apples.

Once this whole thing is over, I am definitely going to treat myself to a massive meal because, man, this really wears you out... you get so hungry, and on top of that, you still have a mountain of other stuff you need to get done.

I am seriously starving right now. It’s getting ridiculous. Today I just managed a warm grilled cheese, and then my "standard" lunch was basically toast, some pasta, and a tiny bit of tuna.
I think I'll go hunting for some dairy-free cheese today. As far as fruit goes, I'm just tossing whatever—bananas and apples.

Once this whole thing is over, I’m going to feast. This stuff drains you so much; you're constantly hungry while trying to juggle a million other things on your to-do list.

You can use vegan cheese; they usually serve that kind of stuff with pasta in hospital meal plans.
I never actually had salmonella or anything like that, but back when I was stuck in the GI ward, everyone was being fed that exact same menu, no exceptions.

the pasta thing is true, I actually thought it tasted pretty good😬

but I was actually hospitalized with a really severe case of salmonella, getting antibiotics through an IV, so I still feel like my meals weren't fully tailored to what I needed🤷

they gave me all sorts of things, though luckily I wasn't able to eat much anyway...🤣
