Kate Castillo55 said:Did I hear correctly that the song is already written and selected, and now they're just deciding who actually gets to sing it? So there aren't any new tracks coming, besides that one waiting in the wings or πŸ˜•

I suspect they'll write three songs and then pick from those...
Or perhaps the final three candidates will all be singing that same pre-selected track... honestly, I haven't the slightest clue. It's all getting a bit convoluted, isn't it?πŸ™„
What happens if that guy Ziggy Marley, or whatever his name is, ends up winning?😳😳

Three authorsβ€”who'll be picked via a public contest based entirely on who can act like they "love" the project the most, just like how they pick the singersβ€”are going to team up to write a song for whoever manages to pull off the biggest, flashiest flex over the next seven weeks...

In plain English, Max Martin, Lady Gaga, and Barry Manilow have already finished writing a track for Ziggy Marley and his band...

Lucky me, I actually ended up being out and about this Saturday πŸ™‚

Honestly, I haven't the slightest clue who’s performing or what they’re even singing... but hey, it’s not like we’re going anywhere big anyway. Who even cares about our chances at the Eurovision Song Contest anymore? We’re just a bunch of clueless people who can't tell good music from bad to save our lives. β˜•

So, I guess we're just assuming Ziggy is going to take home the win then?

How are you even supposed to wrap your head around this, honestly, I actually feel a bit regretful now that I've wasted my time reading a few posts here and learned anything at all about this mess...
Dora and the Eurovision Song Contest are nothing more than pure trash pop, if you ask me, kind of like how Bo Diddley would have put it.(Quoting him again)...
I guess it’s just the kind of stuff a certain type of Southerner would actually sit through.🀷

Kate Castillo55 said:So, does that mean everyone already knows Ziggy Marley is going to win?

Nah... that’s just my own cynical little theory...

What I was actually trying to get at is that THEY (let's call them the "expert panel") have already picked the winner and the song is basically already written in stone. Those seven weeks of pure psychological torture? It’s nothing more than a clever way to squeeze even more cash out of naive citizens who just keep voting by sending in those text messages.

I meant to say that THEY (let's call them the "expert jury") already know who the winner is, and the song is likely already written. Seven weeks of torture is just a way to squeeze more money out of naive citizens who keep voting by sending text messages.

Not only will they make money, but they've also filled seven Saturday nights during prime time with their nonsense. It's a double win for them. Honestly, people, just stay awayβ€”don't watch and don't vote.

I honestly believe Jack has a better shot at winning than Ziggy Marley. Setting aside his sheer stage presence, Jack just has more visibility and mainstream appealβ€”plus, if I'm being honest, he’s a much stronger vocalist. He really stands out from this whole crowd of nobodies, and not just because of his look or his physical stature.

neonfalcon16 said:I honestly think Jack is going to take it before Ziggy does. Putting his physique aside for a second, Jack just has way more exposure and general popularity, plusβ€”if you ask meβ€”he’s actually a better singer than him. Besides, he’s the one who really stands out from this whole crowd of nobodies, and I'm not just talking about his look or his build.

At the end of the day, it's all about the money!

I think this whole concept for Dora is fundamentally flawed. The call for entries was basically an open invitation for anyone who wanted to show up at the casting. Look, I agree we should give talented people a shotβ€”and I’ll stress that word, *talented*β€”to show themselves to the public. But my point is that we should be sending the absolute best the American music scene can offer to the world stage. This whole selection process via some random casting call just feels like an insult to professional artists who have spent years grinding in the industry. What's even the point of a casting for them? Proving to someone they’re better than a bunch of nobodies no one's ever heard of...? The list of people who actually made it proves my pointβ€”it's full of unknowns, or as one news site put it, "anonymous faces." Honestly, those pros probably decided participating would do more harm than good... which, if you ask me, was the smart move. I was curious what exactly "charmed" the judges, so I went looking for some videos online. Since the internet turned the world into one big small town, I found answers pretty fast. It’s funny... looking at the list of qualifiers, there are performers on video who can barely hit a note, let alone sing songs in English. And it’s equally interesting that Maxim HoziΔ‡β€”who actually has experience and is better than at least two people who passedβ€”ended up on the reserve list? I have no clue what the criteria were. To be or not to be talented? You decide.
The purpose and goal of Dora? That’s the question I’m asking. Does it even have one? We just watch contestants belt out covers of foreign and local hits until a winner is picked. With this setup, the entire objective has been flipped on its headβ€”the goal should be choosing the best song, not the best singer. I think the American public is pretty fed up with reality shows, especially since we haven't dealt with them constantly on competing networks recently. This Dora concept feels like a cheap mashup of recent CBS shows like Studio 10 and Star Search. If you blend those two together, you get Dora. It just goes to show how uninspired the people behind this concept really are... trying to juice the ratings by recycling old ideas.

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
It wouldn't fly over there though. Those crowds just want to hear covers; if someone showed up with an original track like this, they'd kick him off the stage before he even finished the first verse... πŸ˜‚

they wouldn't kick him out, they'd probably worship him lol... just kidding, he wouldn't stand a chance at American Idol but it's still a big deal... most people take it way too seriously and don't realize the whole thing is basically just a joke.

I honestly have no idea what his endgame is.
As if he’s actually going to land a decent ranking just by qualifying for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Yeah, right! In his dreams!
I mean, what is an old man even doing competing against all these youngsters?
It's not like we've ever seen an old-timer pull off a win at Eurovision before, anyway.
And have you heard his English? πŸ˜‚ It is an absolute train wreck!!!
And now, for his next act, he’s planning to sing "You Raise Me Up"! πŸ˜‚
Simply dreadful.

Who on earth is even voting for him?
πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

If you ask me, Jack sings much better; he has the experience, a gorgeous voice, and people will actually remember him.
I truly believe he'll secure a very strong position in the competition.

Not quite yet, though I guess word on the street is he's always pulled in the most votes so far. 🀷
If you want more details on how everyone is reacting to all this, you might want to check out that American Idol 2011 thread on TV PDF for more info. πŸ˜‰

edit: and honestly, to the person who started this thread, why go around insulting "old geezers" like that? I mean, plenty of people who are a bit older still have incredible voices, and singers usually just refine their craft as they age. It's not even like Ziggy Marley is that old. Personally, I wasn't really feeling his performance at the Eurovision Song Contest this year, but there's no need to resort to calling someone an old geezer. πŸ™„

The Olsen brothers won Eurovision one year, and they weren't exactly kids, plus their song was pretty much perfect. So, that's enough about the old geezers, I suppose. 😁

Easy enough, but I’d actually love to see Ziggy Marley try his hand at some dance track by Boris ĐurΔ‘eviΔ‡ or Ante PecotiΔ‡. God knows what that would even sound like. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Kate Castillo55 said:Not quite. Though, if rumors are anything to go by, he’s always been the crowd favorite. 🀷
Check out the Dora 2011 TV archives PDF for more details on the general consensus surrounding him.πŸ˜‰

edit: And to the OPβ€”why the need to insult the "old guard"? There are plenty of older performers with incredible range; vocal skill often matures with age. It isn't even as if Ziggy is ancient. Personally, I wasn't a fan of his performance at Dora this year, but calling someone an old fossil is unnecessary.πŸ™„

The Olsen brothers won Eurovision one year, and they certainly weren't kidsβ€”their song was flawless. That should settle the debate about age.😁

My apologies if I was misunderstood. My intention wasn't to insult the "old guard" or imply they can't sing; my point is simply that the national selection and Eurovision should prioritize emerging talent. We need to make room for the youth. Besides, even if he wins, as if he's actually going to land a massive hit... please.πŸ‘Ž
