Need some advice here

I've been diagnosed with lateral patellar compression syndrome and a narrow medial femoralpatellar joint space.

Basically, my knee buckles whenever I walk up stairs. It's been happening for a few months now, and occasionally it hurts a bit too.

The whole thing started during my pregnancy. At first, it was just an occasional buckle, but ever since I took a fall and slammed my knee against the edge of a step, it happens every single day.

What kind of treatment or therapy am I looking at? I live in a house, so stairs are unavoidable, and I really don't want to give up my independence.

Thanks

Don't lose too much sleep over it. Honestly, if everyone went running to an orthopedic surgeon right now, they’d probably all be told they have some level of degenerative wear and tear. The human body isn't some indestructible machine; it wears down. That's just biology. At this point, the real question is how much pain you're actually in. Is it sharp, or is it just that clicking sound? Because, let's face it, everyone’s joints make some kind of noise eventually. If there's no real pain, my advice is to start focusing on strengthening the muscles around the knee. Better muscle support leads to more stability and less of that clicking. Just don't go overboard—start slow. You don't want to turn a minor issue into a real injury by rushing it. Once those muscles catch up, things will feel more balanced, and you won't end up overcompensating with your other leg, which usually ends up being the next problem due to skewed biomechanics. I really can't recommend consistent exercise enough; it works, provided you actually stick to it. Good luck.

The human body isn't invincible; it wears down, and that's just how it works. I guess the real question is, how much does it actually hurt? Or is it just clicking? Because everyone gets some clicking. If there's no pain, you should probably start doing some strengthening exercises. It helps the muscles support the joint better, which might stop the clicking and keep things more stable. Just don't go too hard too fast, or you might make it worse. Once those muscles are stronger, it'll be easier on your other knee, too, since bad biomechanics can cause issues there. I really recommend the exercises—they work, you just have to be consistent. Good luck.

My knee doesn't really hurt. I walk fine. Every once in a while I feel some dull ache or pressure, but it's rare.

What kind of knee exercises are we talking about?

My knee doesn't actually hurt at all. I'm walking just fine. Every once in a while there’s this dull ache or some pressure, but it’s rare

What kind of exercises should I be doing for my knee?

At first, you want to stick to light, passive movements—nothing that puts actual weight or stress on the joint. No running. If you have an exercise bike at home, that would be perfect. Just look online; there's a ton of stuff out there. If you aren't sure which ones are safe, better yet, consult a physical therapist. It's hard to explain specific movements through a screen without getting things wrong. It's great that the pain isn't there right now, so take advantage of that and strengthen it before any issues pop up. Take care.
