"I’m actually posting this on behalf of a friend who—since she’s only just registered as a user—wasn't able to start a thread herself. "

Is this some kind of brand-new rule they've implemented 🙂, or is the author just trolling us big time?

The reason I'm asking here (rather than over at the Help Center) is because—if my reading of this is correct—that would be an incredibly, massive, overwhelmingly "brilliant" decision.

Nah, nothing new was actually implemented. Most likely, the person who supposedly started this thread hasn't even confirmed their account activation yet. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

I'm with you there. It definitely wouldn't hurt.

I'm asking here (instead of the Help Center) because, well, this would be a massive, incredibly huge, supposedly "smart" decision.

It wouldn't be smart, because your post count doesn't actually make you any smarter. Someone who’s an idiot with ten posts is still going to be an idiot with thirty thousand. Plus, we're all equal under the law here, regardless of how many times we've typed something.

Not to mention, threads from brand-new users are often actually quite refreshing and innocent, making them pretty easy to engage with constructively.

It isn’t some intelligence test; it’s just a way to stack up numbers and, more importantly, a way to push ads. On another international forum I frequent, you can’t access half of the features—including sending PMs—until you hit a specific post count. It’s a built-in filter designed specifically to keep the spammers at bay 🙂

Seriously, we need this here too. Especially since the forum lets anyone just grab posts whenever they feel like it.
