It looks like those folks still haven't caught on. 🙂
Honestly, you’re such a perfect candidate for some serious coaching. 🙂 Whether it's music, culinary trends, or where to find reliable info... I see massive potential for growth here. It's just a shame I can't be bothered to put in the effort myself.
I'm rooting for you though...

Legends. I honestly wish we had more bands like this
But they haven't put anything out in five years
I'm going to break your back
A hammer to the spine

And you're telling 🙂
I know we rockers are the problem. We messed around too much and ended up creating this half-witted thing called metal. Whatever—who's actually to blame now?

I don't think you quite caught my drift. It was probably just the emoji... 🙂 I definitely sounded a bit condescending there. I tend to do that sometimes. 🙂 But now I'm the one feeling lost. I assume you were being sarcastic, though I'm not great at picking up on those cues... 🤷 Anyway, I'll stop veering off-topic now. Here we go. 🙂

I’ve been in the music industry for nearly 20 years. It’s pretty bold of you to try and talk down to me like that. 😉

Whatever—they have threads for much stupider things, so why not this one? Fine, I’ll admit it, I was trolling.

Cheers to you 🙂 (and no, I’m not being sarcastic this time)

And of course, every single thread has to end in a bunch of personal insults. Typical behavior for any hardcore rock or metal fanatic out there. Honestly, I’m just glad I grew out of that phase and moved on from that music about two years ago. Back then, I lost all street cred with my neighbors because of the long hair and those black band tees featuring skeletons and whatever else. I've managed to earn some respect back somehow. 😁

Now you're coming for me too 😉
Who says you have to outgrow music? If anything, your palette just gets wider as you age. I was a total rocker back in my teens—now I jump from classical and jazz to blues and old-school rock.
Postscript: Did someone force you to get that haircut, or did you just snap? Even at my University, they couldn't make me do it—even when the professors suggested it 🤣 It wasn't until after graduation that they finally made me cut it, since apparently, a professor shouldn't look like his students 🤣

Exactly what I thought. My man... 😉

Let's say it was both—a bit forced, but also spontaneous. A guy with long hair and a guy with short hair are basically two different people. Since I wanted to look more professional, I chopped it off. So, yeah, it's a mix (check my first Postscript). Now, I'm even letting the beard grow. Switching up your look isn't a bad move. 🙂

Not sure why there's so much sarcasm in that first reply.🤷

I agree with you on the second point—though I didn't see it that way at the time. It took me a few months to get used to the person looking back at me in the mirror.🤣

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. If you want to talk about that rule being lived out in both theory and practice, just look at how Mexicans and Albanians handle things. 😁

Beer, hitting the clubs, headbanging, and hunting through random metal bands on Winamp—mostly black and death metal—aren't exactly what come to mind first. Neither are those goth or hippie girls with hair down to their waist, staring at local gig posters looking for the next show, skipping class every now and then, cutting a few corners, making fun of Emo kids, or just chilling on the grass and shouting.

It’s like that old saying goes: "Long hair, short fuse." Or maybe just "long hair, little brain." Takes two to tango, but some people definitely skip the thinking part. ☕

I think you’ve got a massive bias against long-haired people🤣

I wasn't some high school dropout—stopped drinking when I turned 18, always preferred girls who didn't go overboard with the makeup, and honestly, long hair just drives me crazy. Emo kids weren't even a thing back when I was growing up, I was never really into metal, and I didn't go out much. Usually, I'd just hang with my small circle at a local diner, debating philosophy—or whatever our version of it was back then—until the staff kicked us out around midnight🤣...

but...

I loved (and still love) sitting in the grass. Real nature, though🤣.... not some urban bum style🤣

As you can see, most of the stuff you supposedly "outgrew" by getting a haircut, I never had to deal with in the first place🤷

On the flip side, my parents wouldn't have let me pull that off anyway. Plus, being at a specialized math high school, I was constantly surrounded by "nerds," so that probably played a part too🤷
University doesn't even need to be mentioned...

I'd usually just hang with my small crew at a local diner, debating philosophy (or whatever we thought passed for it back then) until the manager kicked us out around midnight.🤣...

Don't even get me started on University...

Biases or no biases. That's your call.

- Once upon a time. Not anymore.
- I stopped way earlier.
- Girls today are just gross on their own.
- Depends on how she looks.
- Just lucky timing on my end.
- I only went out a handful of times in six months.
- Unfortunately, yeah. Luckily, not with hair that long.
- I do that now. Solo.
- Sitting in the grass is a risk for critters and kidney stones.
- Getting a haircut was the final straw.
- I was a rebel at home. Now, I'm a revolutionary.

Basically, just smaller teenage phases that got shut down early. They aren't comparable to yours because the eras were different. ☕

By the way, tell me—what was it like chilling in nature or at a cafe while shells were falling on your city (since you're from Indianapolis)?

WHAT A THREAD! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Just wanted to throw something related in here—I honestly live for those days when I can just kick back and lounge on the grass, especially at Central Park, and even better if I’ve got a buddy by my side and a cold drink in hand 😁

Why bring up stuff like that? (I remember it well enough, and I'd gladly trade my luxury of time for yours...)

It all went down in the late 90s, so there weren't exactly artillery shells... just a whole lot of trauma and wounds that still need healing.

EDIT:
Sitting in the grass is a risk—between the local wildlife and the threat to your kidneys.

I hope you're joking, 🤣

Keeping it on track here: I love just chilling out on the grass, especially at Central Park, hanging with a buddy and grabbing some snacks along the way. 😁

It didn't really accomplish much, but hey, at least it sparked a little conversation—lots of talk about everything and nothing at all.

An interesting way to kill some free time.

1. It's just an info grab.
2. Everyone thinks their situation is the worst. In reality, it's all the same. Like we say in the States: Same crap, different packaging.
3. So don't act surprised by kids today. Previous generations were way more mature than what you see now. Realized that a long time ago. Just stay quiet, watch from the sidelines, critique, and laugh. Trust me, it's fun. 😁

1. Fine.
2. I don't think I have it the worst. I was specifically pointing out the difference between my luxury of not knowing anything about "Emo culture" and your luxury of not having detailed memories of the wars in the outskirts of the country.
3. Hmm, I wouldn't say I'm surprised. It's a little funny seeing schoolgirls obsessing over Rihanna or boys thinking 2Pac is some peak poet and artist 🤣. But just a little... I still think it's probably inappropriate for a professor to sit in the corner mocking today's youth🤣.

I love the outdoors... hiking, traveling through various parts of the country, camping 😍
Sometimes I even go work (specifically when I'm proofreading) out in nature, or just read. And you shouldn't be afraid of animals... there aren't many of them, and there's never any real danger if you know how to handle yourself in those situations.

I think it's actually pretty unprofessional for a professor to be rolling around on the floor. Just kidding. As for the mocking part... it all depends on who you ask. A coffee shop for older, more serious folks doesn't sound like a bad idea. That vibe of feeling intellectual—newspaper in hand, a cigarette or a coffee, sitting by a window watching all the nonsense of the city pass by—isn't a bad way to live. Here’s a perfect song for those moments:

I’ve never been much for those pseudo-intellectual hangouts where people mostly just talk in circles—it's all empty noise. Real intelligence comes from actually putting in the work and studying, not from reading the papers, smoking a cigar, or grabbing coffee with the crowd you mentioned. It kind of reminds me of my younger self...
