Stone (2010)

We've got Edward Norton and Robert De Niro, two absolute legends, teaming up with Milla Jovovich—who basically paved the way as the millennium's go-to action heroine before tackling the heavy stuff. They're all tangled up in this thriller from director John Curran. For those who haven't been paying attention, this is actually the second time Norton and De Niro have shared the screen. Their first run was back in 2001 with the heist flick "The Score," directed by Franko Oza, where they even had the late Marlon Brando playing alongside them. That one was decent, though maybe not as great as it could've been. We'll see if they hit a home run this time when this $22 million production hits American cinemas on October 8, 2010, followed by its global release.

PLOT

As parole officer Jack Mabry (Robert De Niro) counts the days toward a quiet retirement, he is asked to review the case of Gerald “ Stone ” Creeson (Edward Norton), in prison for covering up the murder of his grandparents with a fire. Interesting. I was actually starting to miss de Niro...

The Score was on TV recently and I have to say, Norton really blew me away—which is more than I can say for de Niro. I'm crossing my fingers that Stone turns out to be better... Milla 😍🙂

Good grief, what an utterly lackluster experience; it was just incredibly tedious and, frankly, painfully slow. I mean, if anyone out there actually managed to decipher the central theme or the intended message of this film, please, do me a favor and write it down, because I am genuinely at a loss here. The plot seems to just wander aimlessly about until those final twenty minutes, but for the vast majority of the runtime, it’s just so sluggish and excessively drawn out that I found myself constantly waiting—just perpetually waiting—for something, anything, to actually happen or for the credits to finally roll.

I started this thread specifically because I can't believe what absolute garbage that movie was. Usually, I check out the plot and some reviews before heading out—but this time, a few friends dragged me along. I honestly thought the trio of de Niro, Edward Norton, and Milla Jovovich would be a solid draw, but man, was I wrong. It was such a tedious, pointless waste of time that I actually stormed out of the theater mid-way. 😠😠😠😠😠

It’s basically one of those movies you watch just to forget it immediately. Honestly, I can't remember a single thing about it except for the fact that Edward Norton plays some prisoner with braids, and that I am never, ever wasting my time on it again.

Yikes. What a disaster. Seriously terrible. 2/10 (the only thing saving it from a zero is a steamy Milla Jovovich)

Great actors sometimes take a break from their usual caliber to jump into these kinds of mediocre movies, and I guess Robert De Niro does that quite a bit lately... ughhh!
