Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice or direction because honestly, I’m at a loss here. 😢

A few days ago, I started getting this pain in the front of my foot—specifically the big toe and that bony part right next to it where you balance when you stand. (Trying my best to explain it without knowing all the medical jargon...)

It’s been hurting for several days now—bad enough that I can’t stand normally and walking is a struggle. I can’t even shift my weight onto that part of my foot because the pain is just unbearable. 😠

On the day the pain started, I was wearing some pretty uncomfortable sandals, and my toes were sort of... forced into an unnatural position. I didn't have any actual injury or anything.
I went to the ER, and they basically told me to rest and head over to the Mayo Clinic. At the Mayo Clinic, they took X-rays of my foot, but there are no fractures. They just told me again to rest, use ice, and take painkillers... but it still hurts just as much as the first day, and last night it actually started swelling.

I have no idea what’s going on, since I clearly haven't received a real diagnosis, nor do I know how to actually treat this thing moving forward.

If anyone has dealt with something similar, or if someone knows enough to offer some guidance or next steps, I would be incredibly grateful!

A few days ago, the front part of my foot started hurting—specifically my big toe and that bone right at the base where you apply pressure when standing. (I'm trying my best to describe it since I don't know all the medical terms.)

The pain has been going on for a couple of days now. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t stand normally and walking is pretty difficult. I just can't shift my weight onto that part of my foot because the pain is unbearable.😠

On the day the pain started, I was wearing some pretty uncomfortable sandals, and my toes were forced into a really unnatural position. I didn't have any specific injury or accident.
I went to the ER, and they told me to rest and head over to Drasković Avenue. At Drasković Avenue, they took an X-ray of my foot. There are no fractures, but they just told me again to rest, use ice, and take painkillers. However, it hurts just as much as the first day, and last night it actually started swelling up.

I have no idea what's wrong. I haven't received a real diagnosis, and I don't know how to treat my foot moving forward.

If anyone has dealt with something similar or knows more about this and could offer some advice or direction, I would be incredibly grateful!

Just painkillers? Honestly, pain like this just takes time to heal!
Next time, definitely be more careful with choosing sandals and heels... LESSON LEARNED. 👍

I’m certainly no medical expert who can hand you a magic formula for pain relief, but since I have incredibly sensitive feet myself, I know exactly what you're going through.
Ever since I was a kid, my foot joints have been an issue, and that big toe joint specifically always seems to act up. To avoid that nagging pain, I’m extremely picky about my shoes. Nothing with high heels—and if I absolutely have to wear something with a bit of height, I research it intensely before buying. I stay away from anything tight or narrow that squishes my feet. My footwear has to be soft, made from natural materials, and feature good cushioning inside.
But, there are times when the pain in my right foot just becomes unbearable.
When that happens, I take a cold soak. I mix in some salt and soak my feet until the water warms up naturally. 😁
Then, I apply a nourishing cream and give the sore spots a good massage.
It also helps to keep my legs elevated; usually, I’ll just lie down on the bed and prop my feet up on some pillows.
Try not to push your feet too hard with uncomfortable shoes right now; just follow the advice you were given, rest up, and let those painful areas cool down.
I actually think you might be able to find a specialized medicated cream at a local drugstore that helps dull the ache.
I really hope you’re feeling even a little bit better today. If not, tomorrow is a brand new day. 🙂

I’ve been dealing with the exact same thing over the last few days. It’s my thumb—specifically that fleshy part right at the base, deep inside.
The difference is, mine isn't because of my shoes. I can’t even move it without intense pain. For two days, it was swollen and bruised; the swelling has gone down now, but the pain is still brutal.
People have already tried to scare me with everything from gout to sciatica—since I deal with back issues—but honestly, I feel a bit ridiculous going to a doctor just to say my thumb hurts.
But seriously, it hurts.

Except for me, it isn't from my shoes. I can't even move it; the pain is unbearable. It was swollen and bruised for two days. The swelling went down, but it still hurts like hell.
People have already tried telling me it's gout or sciatica (I do have spine issues), but I feel stupid even thinking about going to the doctor just to say my toe hurts!
But seriously, it hurts.

It might be bursitis—inflammation of the bursa, that little cushion between the bone and muscle that reduces friction. If that's the case, you should take some Advil and rub on some Voltaren cream. Personally, I have bunions and I'm an active dancer, so I've dealt with this before. There were times my toe swelled up so bad I couldn't walk or even touch it for a week.

I’ll head to the doctor—if the tablets and creams don't do the trick. I'm going to try this route first; I simply don't have the energy to go chasing after endless search results.

Thanks for the advice, everything's fine now. I went to see my doctor—she prescribed some Deep Relief and within a few days, the whole thing just cleared up. 😉

Don't want to clutter the board with a useless thread...

So, I was out running along the riverwalk a couple days ago and messed up my left foot. Didn't feel a thing when I got back home, but after a few hours—once things cooled down—it started killing me...
It only hurts when I'm walking or standing. Moving it around in different directions doesn't bother it at all.
Then this morning, the area where it hurts finally turned red.

I've been slathering on Voltaren and Deep Relief, but nothing's touching it. Just started using some Iontin, we'll see if that does anything.

Anyone got a clue what happened or why it's acting up like this?

Could be a fracture or a stress crack... You should probably get it X-rayed ASAP.

Two days ago, I injured my left foot while running along the riverbank trail. It didn't even hurt when I got home, but after about three or four hours—once things cooled down—the pain really started setting in...
It only hurts when I'm walking or standing. I can move it in every direction without any discomfort.
Then, this morning, redness finally showed up right where it hurts.

I've been slathering on Voltaren and Deep Relief, but nothing is working. Now I've started using Icy Hot, so we'll see.

Does anyone have an idea what happened or why it's hurting like this?

You need to get an X-ray. Period.

Look, in the end, it’s really nothing... seriously.
I rubbed some Icy Hot on it like seven times, works like a charm.
Doesn't even hurt anymore..😁

I kicked something today 🤷 I swung my leg hard, just like I was going to strike a soccer ball, but instead I hit something soft—only with the ball of my foot right near the toes. The pain was so sharp I actually collapsed onto the floor. I stayed hunched over for a bit, but things seemed to settle down after a while. Now, though, I’m noticing that whenever I point my toes downward, I get this sharp pain in the joints at the base of my toes. Could this be something serious? It felt pretty brutal right when it happened, even if it calmed down later.

If there isn't any swelling or bruising, you’re probably fine—looks like you just took a heavy hit. Just stick some ice on it for a couple of days.

There isn't any swelling or bruising, but I'm getting sharp pains shooting through my foot whenever I walk. Honestly, I don't think I'll head to the doctor just yet unless things don't start looking up.

If you aren't dealing with arterial circulation issues in your legs, then I guess it might pass quickly. But if you actually have problems? Honestly, I wouldn't dream of recommending the vascular surgery department at the Mayo Clinic. It’s basically a death trap there. Their treatment is just... it's terrible. They don't care about the critical patients at all during strikes, and they honestly seem clueless. They act like total gangsters, too—just locking themselves away in their little office, chatting on their phones or playing games on the computer while the patients under their watch are dying because the staff is either negligent or simply doesn't know how to manage medications and IVs properly. Doctors from other departments only bother to consult when a patient's condition has already become catastrophic. And they won't even move someone in critical condition to the ICU. It's just awful. I mean, even in Albania, the healthcare feels more reliable than this. I've seen so many ridiculous things happen there that I can hardly believe it. My own patient passed away under such inhumane conditions. I truly didn't think it was possible to see such poor care and complete neglect in the 21st century.

My dad was out for a jog and ended up landing hard—like, really stomped right down on his heel. Now he can barely move, let alone walk, and the pain sounds absolutely brutal. What’s the worst-case scenario here? My mom is planning to drive him to the ER tomorrow morning, but she's understandably anxious to get some answers before they even step foot in the hospital.
