The title and the photo above pretty much tell the whole story. I’ll get this screen to pop up randomly—sometimes right when I boot it up, other times after an hour of actual use. A little tap on the top of the monitor seems to wake it back up, but don't expect it to stay that way for long. I've already ruled out the GPU and the cables, so it isn't those.

Do any of you experts think it's actually worth trying to fix this thing, or should I just haul it straight to the local e-waste center?

If you're dead set on getting a CRT monitor, I'll trade you mine for a decent kebab 😁 Samsung 17-inch...

Maybe hit up a local repair shop and see what kind of damage they'd actually charge you...

Thanks for the 17" 😁,
The one I’m using up here is on my backup rig, an old 19" machine. It actually puts out a decent picture—excellent, even—until things start 😁 halfway through. The only issue is that the geometry is completely shot.

So this monitor is basically begging to be a 16:9 widescreen...
And since he won't let the idea go... I think it’s high time for an upgrade... 😁

Man, if I remember right—and it’s been a long time—it might not even be a breakdown... It really just comes down to whether the fix costs more than the actual hourly rate... 😍

and since we clearly can't talk him out of it, maybe it's finally time to just get him a new one... 😁

Honestly, you might be right; he's a stubborn one. 😁

@taipan, fair point—take it to the shop for an estimate first, then decide if it's worth fixing.

So, I see what you mean... you say if you give it a good smack from the top, it kicks back into gear? That sounds like a loose connection to me. It probably shouldn't cost much to fix...
