What does it take to open a boutique cinema?

Secondly, what does it actually take to open a cinema?

Beyond the obvious requirements like physical space and seating, I assume I’ll need a high-end film projector. Where can one source those, and what kind of budget should I be looking at?

Are there specific permits or licenses required to operate?

The goal for this theater wouldn't be massive profits—I'd be more than happy just breaking even by the end of the year. My vision is to screen timeless classics, host marathon screenings of various trilogies, and run curated series focused on legendary actors and directors.

I’ve also been thinking about potentially opening a cinema myself down the road... maybe even a little cafe where I could host screenings about twice a week. It might be a cool concept, though I suppose it would definitely add more to my plate in terms of running the cafe side of things. Still, I'm assuming that if I owned the venue, I'd be able to screen pretty much any movie I wanted without having to worry about getting specific permission from distributors first...
