Topic is honestly laughable. At times, it feels like a total nightmare for the Microsoft moderators. It’s clearly just trolling and has absolutely no business being there.
Not to mention, this guy's signature is eight lines long.
It's pretty obvious there aren't any mods active on Psychology Every Moment, because I have no idea how something like this stays up there for five or six days without anyone lifting a finger.

Not even getting into the core point of this thread (even though I’m on board with it), I just wanted to properly 😬 respond to this eight-line signature, but I honestly can't find it 😕 🤷
In other words, there isn't a single sign of a signature 🤷

I guess you can't really see what happens when you click on it. Profile?

Paul Green31, did you report the thread or just a specific post?
It’s pretty obvious that there isn't a Fairy around here. :/

Here’s the screenshot. In a best-case scenario, they might actually notice he's got five lines on a resolution higher than what's allowed in the rules. At that rate, it'll probably end up being eight. 🙂

Yeah, I did. But nothing's happening. Not for days.

Here’s a snippet from the thread I’m using to back up my appeal.
Amtrak said:Funny thing is, I don't even sport a mustache or beard most of the time—just the occasional stubble. Those whiskers of yours? Totally old school. You should really take a page out of my book... if you can actually pull it off. Just study my charm; I'll give you permission to mimic it, whether you're making an entrance or just talking to your family at dinner. Tell me, what kind of razor and cologne are you using? You strike me as one of those traditional types... straight razors, strop, a broken mirror (reflecting my face, obviously), and some Roland aftershave—which you'll definitely need since you'll probably cut yourself staring at me in the mirror too much. It's unreal...😲 Switch to Gillette Fusion... you have those gorgeous Phillips shavers...

http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/me...095_22/prd/gb/

This is what true gentlemanly style looks like. You could practically call it my signature move. Looking at this shaver, you feel smooth, masculine, and sophisticated... just like me...😁

I use L'Oreal Paris Men Expert balm after I shave... makes me feel as fresh as a drop of dew on a red rose...

Then again, maybe this whole thing belongs in Psychology. 🤣

So, it seems like there aren't any mods active on Psychology, because I don't see how this could sit there for five or six days without anyone stepping in.

And what kind of action would you even want to see? As someone who uses that PDF, I find the thread a bit tedious now—mostly because the author doesn't really have a chance to develop it without being predictable and repetitive, which is already happening—but objectively speaking, this topic isn't any more "trolly" than many other threads on that platform that lack substance or potential (you know, those topics limited strictly to personal experience, or ones opened just for emotional venting or hoping to spark controversy without much actual argument). The author might still be able to save this one with some witty remarks, creativity, or good writing; whereas those other threads—like that one about intelligence differences between men and women—can only be saved by direct intervention or the sheer goodwill of other participants.

And frankly, these comments suggesting that a moderator is missing feel a little childish to me—not to mention quite unprofessional. You're making this point using a thread that is actually quite benign—sort of a literary take where the author, more or less skillfully, pokes fun at a modern psychological phenomenon (even if it's somewhat contrived)—essentially talking about themselves as the subject without really offending anyone.

Also, let's not spin the facts here; as a regular user of that PDF, I know for a fact that similar moderator actions have taken place on it in recent days.

@ Lisa Hernandez3

Look, this thread is dying because the OP has zero chance of actually developing it. And let’s be real—there's no chance because nobody else here even wants to participate. It’s just turned into a series of manifestos from an author who acts like some time traveler born in 2013. Sure, he was weirdly interesting enough to drag this thing to eighty pages, but it’s mostly just him obsessing over his "cosmic energy" and all these profound insights he thinks he's offering to the rest of us miserable mortals. He thinks he's enlightened while everyone else is just stuck in the mud.
That’s pretty much the gist of it. I won’t even bother mentioning my own role in this, because being "constructive" isn't really happening here. Quite the opposite, actually.
Listen, I’ve been on this site for a long, long time. Way longer than my current username has existed. I follow several sub-forums, including Psychology Every Moment. And believe me, Psychology Every Moment has never allowed this kind of triviality. You don't see people popping up every five days with a "hey, I'm the smartest guy alive" thread. Those usually die by post three or four. They never make it this far. If they did survive that long, or if someone actually had a legitimate issue like this, they wouldn't be framed in such a... shall we say, "colorful" way.
Even if we play along and assume the author has the personality disorder he claims to have, the whole thread would have been handled completely differently. Based on the sheer amount of detail here, it’s obvious the guy is just trolling. This entire thing has no basis in reality. Can a thread grow without being grounded in facts? Sure, but it looks totally different. This one has a fatal flaw: it lacks any semblance of logic.
Look, fairy tales, conspiracy theories, cosmic enlightenment—that stuff is fine for other parts of the forum. But not in Psychology Every Moment.
To prove my point, I’ll just pull a few excerpts from what you call his "literary masterpieces."

KLP said:I am from the cosmic core, sent to Earth to promote boundless perfection, self-love, love for others, the infinity of one's inner self, and an impressive level of intellectual superiority that sweeps away and destroys every earthly imperfection.

The complex thought of my cosmic boundlessness and freedom is finalized. I completed that process around 7:45; I admit the process took a bit longer due to an irregular and uneven predictive image... specifically, in the area of a Pacific archipelago, a passionate human sin occurred, and that act, by interfering with mine, allowed for the delay in completion.

While you all are still dreaming, my unity awakens at 3:40 every single morning, providing new strength for you. For surrender and giving up are not in my nature; they are my enemies, standing aloof and perpetually waiting for my end—but that is an impossible undertaking on their part, for it is merely an impulse, eternally unfulfilled.

There you have it. Looking at these snippets, it's obvious this has nothing to do with psychology. Unless, of course, we view this thread as a transcript of what someone with a mental breakdown says when their medication wears off. By that logic, I could start a thread in Psychology Every Moment where I spend ten pages rambling about how I feel like Napoleon.

By the way, I’m not anyone’s colleague—I’m just a user on Reddit. Calling my request for action "childish" is honestly a huge reach. You’re more than welcome to say, "Why do you even care what the topic is on Psychology Every Moment?"
But look, a community like this is a sensitive thing. When you have a group of people talking, there’s an expectation that the Psychology subforum stays a place for actual discussion (even if it's lighthearted, it should be labeled as such). Why does that matter? Because people come here with real issues looking for answers. It works for some of us—I haven't solved my life's problems here yet, but who knows? I believe it works for others too. When someone shows up with a genuine struggle, wouldn't it be better if the forum actually met them halfway? Instead of having their crisis buried under a mountain of troll threads about space inspiration or random nonsense happening in the Pacific Islands that just messes with everyone's mental balance?

Basically, it all comes down to the quality of the thread. And right now, the quality is bottom-of-the-barrel for this entire site.
Signing off with a drink in hand.

The topic is stupid and should have been deleted from the moment it was opened.
Lisa Hernandez3 said:I find your complaints about the lack of moderator presence to be somewhat childish, not to mention unprofessional. And you're making these points based on a thread that is extremely harmless—

I guess what you aren't grasping is that my comment pertained to the entire sub-forum. It used to be better moderated when there were two moderators active instead of just one, which isn't the case right now.

Regarding why this thread has been sitting open for days without any action—well, I suppose you'll have to get that answer from the moderators. I know for a fact that Coca-Cola has been moderating lately (and I know exactly what they've been up to), and since they're active, they can weigh in if they feel it's necessary. There's clearly some sort of reasoning behind the decision to leave the thread up as it is—or perhaps it just takes a little time to reach a sensible conclusion. Personally, as someone who spends most of my time on this site, I tend to support keeping the thread active—not deleted—for the reasons I'll mention below, though maybe moving it to a better section would make sense too.

I suspect this is one of those threads that won't have much of a lifespan anyway. Once the author exhausts their supply of jokes, it’ll probably just sink down through the subsequent pages until it hits the third or fourth page. It's a decent thread for people looking for some casual banter—you know, just messing around. Aside from that, the author seems to have a bit of a need for attention, which, as long as they aren't being a total nuisance to everyone else, I think we should probably support—at least logistically—since they went through the trouble of starting it. I wouldn't say he's causing trouble personally; he's really no different from the majority—yes, the majority—of other users who start threads that don't really go anywhere. His thread, unlike so many others started in a similar fashion, at least has a bit of a spark—if you look at the first post—or at least shows a basic level of literacy and a concept, even if it is purely fictional or literary in nature. If it's bothering people, maybe we could suggest to the mods that it be moved to the Little Literary Corner. Deleting this specific thread while leaving all the other poorly constructed ones alone would feel like a real restriction on free speech, and honestly, it would undermine the whole point of the forum.

In my opinion, more than anything else, the moderators can't really be held responsible for the quality of the content—whether it has potential or not—because that's up to the users. You want a better experience on this site? Then start meaningful discussions and write something worthwhile instead of complaining about fleeting issues in the complaint section. All this fuss over a single thread, especially when there are countless other threads out there that are trolling, argumentative, or just written out of boredom or immaturity, feels a bit silly to me. It probably would have been better to start a high-quality thread there rather than coming here to vent.

@ mistywolf17
Well, I'm basically giving you the same answer I gave Paul Green31, overall.

Look, every single thread on any given PDF usually has its fair share of high-quality stuff mixed in with the total garbage, it’s just how it works.
Aside from the admins and the moderators, a massive chunk of the actual influence comes from the regular users on Reddit, specifically when they decide which topics are worth their energy and which ones they’re just going to let sink into oblivion.
If a thread isn't absolutely brain-dead, honestly, you’re better off just leaving it open and letting whatever evolution happens take its course.

Lisa Hernandez3 said:...The topic is great for people who just want casual conversation, you know, just messing around.

So, it's good for chatting? Maybe we should just start a dedicated chat thread over on Psychology Every Moment.

Unlike so many other threads opened in a similar fashion, his topic at least shows some level of gag (check the first post) or some basic literacy and a concept, even if it's purely fictional or literary in nature. If this is just a slap in the face, maybe suggest to the moderators that they move it to the Little Literary Corner. Deleting this thread while leaving all those other threads open—which are opened in a similar, or even more questionable, way—would basically be a restriction on free speech and the whole point of Reddit.

I'm not even going to comment on the gag from the first post. 🙄 Look, this stuff I quoted above about space and nonsense has nothing to do with Psychology. This belongs over here.
If you actually like talking to this guy so much, go ahead and start a chat thread over on Off to swap ideas. This thread stands out from everything else in Psychology because it’s simply impossible to take seriously.

Look, sorry if I and a lot of other users don't take a guy seriously when he's claiming he didn't finish his psychological training because of crimes committed on a silent ocean???😕
Don't give me that crap—this isn't something that should be discussed in Psychology...

In my opinion, most importantly, the moderators can't be held responsible for the potential—or lack thereof—of the users on this sub. You want a better sub?

What some moderators don't get (and you don't either, criticizing my complaint) is that by letting these kinds of threads survive, they are ruining the reputation of their own subforum.
And in the long run, the high-quality, professional, and desirable users leave. Because nobody serious wants to post in a place where people are debating how swallow flight patterns affect rice farming in China... It just makes them look ridiculous.
Then, you're left with an unreliable sub filled with chatters, and it quickly turns into total chaos.
I'm not saying everything needs to be hyper-professional and ultra-serious; there has to be a middle ground. But the problem with this specific thread is that it's way below that middle ground.

Start smart threads and write something meaningful instead of whining about trivial things in the complaints section. The uproar you're making over one single thread, among thousands of others that are trollish in a broader or narrower sense (excessive, argumentative, baseless, or just written out of boredom or immaturity), is ridiculous. You would have been better off starting one quality thread over there instead of coming here to whine.

Look, I’m not really in the mood to write about Psychology, or any of the other sub-forums for that matter. But just because I’m not posting doesn't mean I'm not lurking. I read almost everything. I enjoy quotes, and I write a little bit when the mood strikes.
There was a time when religion was all about quotes, or politics was a place where I'd pop in to see what was happening... even Microsoft opened up enough for me to find something worth looking at. Now? It's just these sub-forums I don't visit for months. And how did we get here? It all started with the innocent lowering of standards and this whole "democracy" thing.
Democracy doesn't mean you have to listen to every single person who opens their mouth; it just means everyone has the right to speak without being punished. The size of the audience depends entirely on how good the speaker is. Honestly, getting rid of someone nobody wants to listen to or read is actually a good thing.

I’m only filing this complaint because I feel like I need to warn the people who actually care about the quality of this site—to let them know that quality is slipping somewhere. It’s my duty to sound the alarm. It’s the responsibility of those running this site to decide if my observations are actually right. I’m done arguing about it. Let the mods weigh in and do whatever they want with this thread.

Paul Green31, I used to be quite active over on the Psychology Every Moment sub-thread—honestly, I wrote a ton there—but just like with certain... let's call them "life pursuits," everything eventually starts looping back on itself, you know? It gets repetitive, gets stale, so I don't post there nearly as much as I used to.

Now, look, I’ll admit there are plenty of mindless, idiotic threads floating around, but honestly, there isn't a single corner of the internet that isn't plagued by them. It’s nearly impossible to purge them all. I mean, if we actually enforced a rule on the Psychology board saying people couldn't start threads that have already been made, we'd probably only have two new things to read every month. It would be a desert.

Reddit isn't some hyper-niche, specialized community dedicated to one specific thing; it’s an open platform where anyone can sign up, anyone can write, and generally, people can talk about whatever they want (assuming they follow the basic rules, obviously).

At the end of the day, the owner of the site knows best whether they want 80 users hanging out in Psychology Every Moment at any given moment, or if they're perfectly fine with just four or five.

True, but that doesn't really address the specific question you're asking through this user's example. I suppose this just shows he took advantage of the moderators' good intentions—they were letting his thread stay up to see what he had to offer, I guess. Now that his true motives have come to light, he won't be able to pull that anymore. So, if anything, this proves the system works based on goodwill, even when someone tries to exploit it—which is actually the opposite of your point.

The serious users you mentioned above can simply choose topics based on criteria that suit them—they can judge by the title, or sometimes even by the author, so they know what to expect—not to mention the opening post itself. In short, a serious and focused user already knows exactly what they're looking for and will find it easily enough.

Lisa Hernandez3 said:Yeah, but that doesn't actually answer the question you're obsessed with—the one you're trying to prove using this user as an example. All this shows is that he took advantage of the moderators' good intentions by letting him run his thread until his true colors showed. Now that we know exactly what kind of troll he is, he can't pull that stunt anymore. So, if anything, this proves the system works because it catches people when they abuse its goodwill. It’s the exact opposite of your theory.

Look, sorry, but this just proves my point. As soon as that guy stepped outside the jurisdiction of the federal Psychology department, he ran straight into a patrol that put him right back where he belongs.
If they had shut him down from the start, he wouldn't have had the chance to spam the whole site.
Now, here's a question for you. What if he’d been a little smarter? What if he’d played it cool instead of opening the exact same thread in every single sub-forum? He could have kept spamming for years. 😁
Serious users, like the ones you mentioned, can pick their threads based on what they're looking for. They look at titles, sometimes even the author, and they definitely check the opening post. A focused, serious user knows exactly what they want and how to find it.

Usually, you can tell if a thread is worth anything just by reading the first post. Even if it looks borderline, within the first five or six replies, you see if it turns into something useful or if it's just garbage waiting to be closed.
By both my standards, that thread was ready for the trash bin. ☕

But honestly, based on some of your posts, I think I finally get why my complaint rubbed you the wrong way.

So, let me be clear. I don't have a problem with the Psychology mods; I just feel like they aren't actually there. My point is backed up by the fact that not one of them has chimed in here, even though it's standard practice for mods to jump in when they disagree.
If the Psychology mods are MIA, then the administration needs to hear about it.
That's all.

Oh, and by the way, my original question still hasn't been answered. The fact that the user got banned from Psychology doesn't address my actual point at all.
Not that I’m holding my breath for an answer.

I suppose I won't dwell on this too much—I've already addressed several of your questions and comments in my previous posts.
The reason this topic "bothered" me is that you seem to be trying to highlight what is actually a significant (albeit broad and complex) issue by just pointing fingers at one or two specific instances—people who, frankly, can't really carry the weight of responsibility or "blame" on their own. Now, just like you, I certainly have an opinion on the phenomenon you're discussing, and that perspective might actually be quite valid, well-articulated, and rooted in both experience and theory. It probably would have been interesting for you to hear it, too, but I guess we missed out because you designed this whole thread to be a sort of public call-out. Not to mention, the call-out was based on some rather inaccurate information regarding someone's absence—so I felt the need to point out that, from what I've seen through specific moderation actions within the threads, I know firsthand that isn't the case. It seems like you aren't particularly interested in using any imagination here—perhaps trying to deduce or respect other people's reasoning before launching a thread like this. I suppose it's just easier to claim someone isn't there or isn't doing their job. 🙂

Of course I started this thread to call them out. If the mods over in Psychology were hanging around while a total troll-fest like that was happening right under their noses, then what's even the point of talking? A call-out is exactly what's needed.
Psychology isn't the place to be dumping the kind of stuff I quoted earlier. There’s a completely different subforum for that.
Look, I actually find people's reasoning and thought processes interesting, which is why I bother reading some of the threads in Psychology—and honestly, across the whole site. But if you're suggesting I should have played detective to figure out why the mods let that thread stay up, forget it. I'm not a mind reader. They had plenty of time over the last few days to explain their logic before it became obvious I was right when I labeled that troll and spammer for exactly what they were. Now, they aren't going to do it.
And I'm done debating this. In my opinion, threads like that shouldn't even exist in the Psychology section. All that "spiritual teaching," "prophetic Milani," horoscope nonsense, the "enlightened" ones, the time travelers, and all the other forum folklore belongs over in Alternative. I'll pop by there myself once in a while when I need a good laugh.
If the mods feel differently, they can step up and say so. But if they do, my next move will be to suggest we rename Psychology to Pseudo-psychology.
