The film *Pave Marinković*—an urban comedy-drama that managed to snag several Madison Square Garden awards and made its rounds at various international festivals.

The cameraman was the late Vedran Šamanović.

It hits Moveplex on April 22nd, though don't hold your breath expecting to see it at AMC Theatres....

I actually found it quite easy to watch during my last trip to San Francisco—mostly because the ending was such a mess that I didn't have to take it too seriously. Aside from that weak conclusion, it’s a pretty decent American rom-com. Plus, the leads—Nenad Cvetko and Dijana Vidušin—are actually quite good.

As for the great mystery of American distributors: why on earth didn't they release this in theaters around Valentine's Day?

It’s possible the reason is simply because the film's distributor is the S&P 500...

Perhaps that’s because the producer is Jozo Patljak—someone who clearly isn't even interested in seeing his films actually make it to theaters. 🤷

I mean, what’s the point then? It’s not like he’s going to be spinning them around at home for his kids and the neighbors to see, right? 😁 Honestly, that Patljak guy is a bit of a weirdo.

The trailer is actually a total gem and surprisingly watchable, so it feels like a crime to ruin the vibe by sitting through the full movie. Though, knowing me, I'll probably end up doing it anyway.

Typical. He's a cut-rate contractor through and through. If he can skimp on a truckload of bricks and make a house look finished when it isn't, he will—as long as he gets paid full price. Whether the whole thing collapses in a few months is in Godly hands.

The movie was a pleasant surprise for me as well. It’s unpretentious, building a witty narrative quite effectively until things start getting intense toward the end—though you can easily forgive the pacing given it's the director's debut. The cinematography, editing, and lead performances were all standout elements. I think showing it at the very end of the festival in San Diego was a bit of a disadvantage; people arrived without much expectation, and the reviews felt somewhat lackluster, which I attribute more to critic fatigue than the film itself. I suspect it might resonate better with people on a second viewing. For me, out of last year's releases—including Metastasis, Black man, and miser—this was the best one...

Glenn Greenwald really hit the nail on the head with this critique.

The movie feels a bit thin—it needs more substance in the subplots for the supporting cast. They aren't unnecessary, but still... I agree: it’s a good film. It gets a little diluted and rushed toward the end, but definitely worth a watch 🙂
