I’m honestly just glad I live in the West, specifically in Germany, where people actually grasp the reality of Putin’s fascist policies and his obsession with rebuilding the old USSR.
A few years back, I started a similar thread, but the moderators shut it down because I supposedly hadn't "proven" my point. Well, look who was right! In Germany, you don't deal with this kind of censorship. But here on this forum? A handful of mods set the rules on the homepage, including a ban on any comparisons between the Civil War and the war in Ukraine. It goes deeper than that—they seem to bend the rules for the pro-Russia crowd, like that user Konev, letting them break guidelines by posting links in a language most of us can't even understand. Most regular users gave up on the Ukraine topic ages ago. Now, it’s just a playground for Putin supporters to run wild. The whole thread has turned into a giant fan club for Mother Russia and their leader, Putin.
As an American, I believe I have the democratic right—just like everyone else here—to steer clear of discussions that are heavily biased toward one side.
Here’s my suggestion: Could I please get permission to start a new thread in the PDF World section titled "The Civil War vs. the War in Ukraine (Similarities and Differences)"?

Well, unfortunately, I’m living here in America, posting on this forum to join your protest—which, frankly, is long overdue (think Agajan & Agajan). We have to address the blatant intellectual dishonesty that went down during the last similar discussion here. The thread was locked—and honestly, they really need to stop doing that, which is something the moderators should fix—only for a final moderator post to be dropped in on September 3rd, 2014, at 11:05 AM (here), specifically calling out users by their actual names. What kind of logic is that? To strip away the ability to respond when no rules were actually broken, and it was just a healthy debate? It's incredibly rude and disrespectful to the community. You end up with questions left hanging, even though that's the whole reason the thread was opened in the first place. For instance, take this ridiculous notion that you aren't allowed to compare the aggression against Ukraine to the aggression against the US during our own history, or any criticism of the Russian regime. By what authority is that being done?

This isn't the first time this has happened. They just shut down the entire discussion about Ukraine on the board. The moderator waits until the thread is locked before finally chiming in, effectively silencing the rest of us. It feels like since they updated the forum rules, we've seen nothing but censorship and a total bias toward one single perspective. Now, it’s become the standard practice: the mod avoids responding to direct call-outs because they lack actual arguments, choosing instead to just lock the topic. Things got pretty heated too, especially after the moderator called our colleague Brenda Cook4 an anarchist.
You can't express a different opinion here without getting hit with a warning card.

The PŽK thread isn't a discussion about the war in Ukraine. When a moderator shifts a thread focused on Ukraine toward general chronicles or other side topics, it gets shut down. For instance, you’ve fallen right into this diversionary tactic by Brenda Cook4—trying to hijack the conversation by pivoting the focus toward moderation issues. If this continues, people are going to face consequences, including warnings, deletions, and thread closures. And let’s be clear: that would be due to intentional disruption, not because anyone actually has a problem with how the Ukraine thread is moderated.
Therefore, I am requesting that we return to the original topic.

I’m throwing an idea out to the moderators regarding the Ukraine thread:
"No comparisons allowed whatsoever."

As stupid as this rule sounds—and let's be honest, it is—it isn't any dumber than the current ban on comparing Maddox's aggression to Putin's aggression.

The pro-Russian crowd here can say whatever they want—labeling Ukrainians as fascists, Americans as Nazis, or NATO as terrorists—but God forbid anyone compares Putin's invasion of Ukraine to Maddox's aggression against us.

So, hey, why don't we just take censorship one step further?
Might as well go all the way...

Of course, there’s a much more logical, democratic, and frankly simpler solution the mods could implement right now.
Just scrap this ridiculous rule and move on...

And really, why does this even need to be a debate in the first place..?
It’s like telling a group of people they aren't allowed to use the letter "e."
Everything is perfectly clear to everyone here, isn't it...?

The mods have totally given up on the Ukraine topic. It’s just a circus now—conspiracy theorists, psychics, and those EU idiots acting like thieves and clowns. One guy even dropped a link to some war video on YouTube and everyone’s cheering it on, and who actually cares? I reported a post a while back where people were just trashing anyone who didn't agree with Russian policy, but I checked later and nothing happened. No bans, nothing.

Way to go, guys. Honestly, I don't care; I just block everything I don't want to see. Using the ignore button costs me nothing, and I'm only here because there are still some smart people whose opinions I actually value. I try to chime in with something intelligent myself sometimes, but if this current way of running things continues, this whole forum is going to turn into a total troll swamp. If that's the goal, then good luck to you.

Exactly👍 While the moderator keeps insisting we’re in the minority, the reality is that 99% of the political forums out there completely dodge the actual issue. This whole thread has turned into nothing but pure trolling, where people just sing praises to Putin and his glorious Russia—all while the moderation team gives them a thumbs up and actively participates. It’s funny how you’re allowed to insult the legally elected President of Ukraine under the guise of "freedom of speech," but heaven forbid anyone mentions Putin or his policies.
Breaking the rules seems to be perfectly fine here, since Konev is still being allowed to drop links to articles written in a language none of us Americans can even understand. Meanwhile, they’re making up new rules on the fly to ban any comparison between the war in Ukraine and the American Civil War. As usual, the moderator is dodging the debate, so I’m calling on the administration to weigh in.
Is this forum's policy basically just unconditional support for Putin and his fascist agenda? Is censorship being introduced here by inventing new rules to stop people from comparing the war in Ukraine to the American Civil War?

I find myself wondering if you actually read your own posts. You complain about insults directed at the Ukrainian President, yet in the very next breath, you refer to the Russian President as a "fuhrer" and a fascist...
Regarding those comparisons between the "war" in Ukraine and the American Civil War, that subject has already been extensively debated. In my view, those two events simply cannot be compared for far too many reasons, and anyone attempting to draw those parallels is likely just trolling.

Oh, absolutely. It bothers you when someone states the obvious, but an entire invasion of a sovereign nation doesn't seem to bother you—nor does the moderation that allows it. It's a fact: what Putin is doing right now is exactly what Maddox did back in the day.
Ever since Rock left, there hasn't been any real moderation on this thread. Every other opinion gets punished, while you guys get a free pass to troll away, making up fake narratives and denying the legitimacy of the elected leaders in Ukraine. Calling them a fascist junta or insulting Ukrainian institutions has become a daily occurrence here, not to mention all those posts popping up in Russian.
When Rock was the moderator, things were actually objective, but I guess that didn't suit you all, because you'd start ten different threads about Ukraine every single day.
What we're seeing now with Crimea and this so-called "new Russia" is just a repeat of how certain territories were carved up in the past.
So go ahead, keep trolling this thread and singing Putin's praises with the full support of the moderators.

There’s really only one reason why people ban those comparisons: 99.9% of the time, it just devolves into some nonsense about extremists and hate groups. Everything else is just pure stupidity.

Here’s how I see democracy working:
- Every single person on this forum should have the right to pull comparisons they think strengthen their point
during a debate.
- And everyone else should have the right to tear those comparisons apart to bolster their own arguments.

Labeling one side or the other as "trolling" is just anti-democratic.
Banning certain viewpoints is straight-up censorship.

Whether or not a comparison actually makes sense—that’s what the discussion itself is for.
At least, that’s how it ought to be.

Honestly, if we’ve reached a point where even the basic rules of engagement are being questioned—largely due to all these endless complaints about the Democratic Party—then please, let’s just be blunt about it. Personally, I'm out of questions, and I'm certainly out of things to say on a topic like this.

This is how you handle things.

I’ll drop a link here along with a translation of a statement made by a famous Russian author

And lo and behold, a troll pops up immediately to write this:

In case anyone is wondering, you can check out the awards Ulitsky has received right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Ulitskaya

So, tell me—is any kind of actual discussion even possible with people like that? It’s always the same crowd, whether we're talking about Russia or Ukraine. You've got the usual suspects, like the science fiction literature enthusiasts and Konev, just hovering around like a pack of wolves, doing whatever they feel like.

It was the exact same story when the Dalai Lama spoke out. The moderators wiped her statement clean, and then the administration had the nerve to claim that the Dalai Lama's comments on Putin were "off-topic"—even though the entire thread was specifically about Russia! To top it off, that thread on the Democratic Party forum was rushed through being locked and deleted without anyone ever explaining why a comment about Putin wasn't relevant to a discussion on Russia.

To put it bluntly: it's a total DISGRACE.

Hey, can you please drop some links? If there’s a massive pile of them, don't sweat it—just grab a handful. I'm looking for stuff that isn't ancient history, but also maybe not just things posted five minutes ago. Just a little variety would be great. Moving forward, you're going to start getting hit with direct warnings if you come in here making these broad, sweeping complaints about everything under the sun without actually backing them up with any proof.

That post was actually written just 24 minutes before yours. Look, regardless of what's being said in it, I’m totally fine with it being considered part of the evidence if it meets the necessary criteria, but please—let's not go around presenting brand-new posts like this as definitive proof of bad moderation.

I actually started a thread earlier with links to this PDF, but they ended up nuking all but one of my posts.
Here are the links. If posting these isn't against the rules, I honestly don't know what is. In the last post of that thread, a member from the Democratic Party was actually bragging about opening a special dedicated thread just for Konev to dump his Russian links in.
Here are the links from that previous thread:

Look, please stop opening new threads as continuations of closed appeals. The moderators did exactly what they intended to do with those posts, and the discussion regarding them is officially over. I really want to point out that the topic involving Ukraine is incredibly difficult to moderate, and I’m asking everyone here to please try not to lose your cool every time a few posts don't go your way. If a moderator misses something occasionally, it’s really not the end of the world; the important thing is that the thread is being managed well overall. This subject is extremely volatile and sensitive, so please keep that in mind.

If you don't have something substantive or serious to contribute, please don't come looking for trouble here. A couple of off-topic posts shouldn't require an entire squad to step in while the server is already struggling under the weight of intense debates, especially when our moderators are swamped with work. I personally don't want to pull them away from their main duties just because of a few comments that they've already addressed.
