There’s a theory that binge eating is just an attempt to fill an internal void. You stuff yourself because your chest and your soul feel empty.
Similarly, you might be burying problems you can't face by shoving food down, effectively "suppressing" them deep in your stomach so they don't surface.

I'm not saying this applies to everyone, but it's worth considering if this is your situation.
It’s true for me. When I feel unfulfilled, I eat; I binge. When I'm troubled, I eat. When I am happy, fulfilled, or entertained—food isn't necessary. It actually just slows me down.

August 14, 2015. I’m bingeing again. Just to lay it all out there, because someone might wonder where all this actually goes when you're sitting at 133 pounds. Today I’m up to 138, my stomach skin feels tight and painful, and I am sweating like crazy. Right now, I’m eating some cottage cheese. Finally found a little bit of common sense.
Yesterday, I went on a tear just because I was happy—my boss finally headed out on vacation. I polished off half a Grand Canyon sundae, a whole small one, a Snickers bar, and practically an entire large pizza. I seriously considered stopping by the bakery for more, maybe a couple of cheese pastries. But I didn't. That tiny, microscopic sliver of my brain actually spoke up and said, "Don't do this to yourself." It wasn't even about the money. I haven't seen my bank account balance this low in ages, especially on a date like this.
The cheese is melting while I'm typing this, so I need to hurry up before I lose the motivation to write anything else.
I pulled over at a gas station and grabbed a two-liter bottle of juice—it said multivitamins on the label. For heaven's sake, it isn't even soda, which is a small victory in itself. I also picked up some mini croissants and two Snickers bars. I haven't eaten them, though. They're just sitting here in my drawer. Unopened. Saving them for the next episode. Feeling proud.
So, here is what I know today: I binge when I'm happy. And the second thing? This time, I actually managed to hold out for two full weeks.
All these topics have been covered so many times before; is it possible the issue has gone extinct like the dinosaurs?...

It isn't just a phase; I've been overeating for years now, ever since I started college. Honestly, from a year before graduation until the moment I finished, there hasn't been a break.

Sometimes I eat so much it actually makes me feel sick. Food has become my go-to for everything—whenever I’m happy, sad, bored, you name it.

I've ended up deep in debt because of it. I actually had to give my credit cards to someone else to hide them so I wouldn't drain what's left of my savings... which is already looking pretty thin.

I'm constantly working, sometimes juggling multiple jobs, just so I can afford to eat. It’s become a serious issue for me... I just can't seem to stick to a diet. I'll start one and then give up within a few hours. This whole thing is exhausting. I feel terrible, like I have absolutely no willpower. I struggle to breathe, and I'm carrying about 45 pounds too much—though if I ate the way I should, I'd probably be 110 pounds heavier than I am now!
I really don't know where to even begin... everything tastes good to me lately. Even things I used to hate, like canned meat, I could eat by itself without any bread... I'll just eat whatever is sitting in my pantry.

Anyway, I think that's enough for now. I'll reach out again if I manage to change even just a little bit.

Hey everyone,

Why does binge eating happen? Why does it happen to me?
I’m asking because I want to know. As a psychology student, I've always wondered what drives people to this state—what forces them to just keep eating and eating (we've all been there). There were times when I dealt with heavy emotional stuff and turned to food as a lifeline, and honestly, I still do sometimes.
Driven by curiosity and my own experiences, I decided to dive deep into why we lose control. I've chosen binge eating tendencies as the focus for my senior thesis.

To figure out the underlying triggers, I need your help. If you're interested, please take a moment to fill out this survey.

I’m here if you have questions. Hopefully, we can actually find some answers to why we do what we do.

"Unfortunately, the file you requested does not exist"
is what pops up whenever I try to click the link.🤔
And honestly, I was quite looking forward to seeing what kind of content was actually waiting for me on the other side of that page. 😁
