Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on my current setup:

ASUS P5K motherboard
Corsair XMS2 2x2 GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Core 2 duo E6600
NVIDIA GeForce GT 210
EVGA 580 W power supply

Here is my question:

Would it actually be worth investing $150 in an additional 4GB of the exact same RAM—just to get a bit more speed out of Photoshop when I'm editing photos?

Thanks!

I actually received a much smarter suggestion—it’s probably better to just put those $150 toward a beefier processor now, then look into building a whole new rig later on 🙂

Yeah, definitely. $150 Buying new RAM for such an outdated rig—it's just not worth it. 🙂

I mean, honestly, it’s probably not worth it even for a new CPU unless you snag an absolute steal.

Just grab a Western Digital instead; at least you can toss that into a new build later on.

But how am I supposed to do that when this motherboard doesn't even support SATA3?

The guy already has a Western Digital installed, and his motherboard supports SATA 😉

It’s got II —though it really would be nice if it had SATA III so we could actually see those full SSD speeds. 🙂

He should just grab an Intel 520... at that point, he won't even notice the difference with faster Western Digital drives anyway.

If they’ve already got an SSD, I guess it might not be worth throwing $150 at some old RAM

And for $150 ... damn, I’m honestly gonna offload my 4GB for $53.

Plus, that Samsung 870 EVO SSD you're looking at is sitting around 480-$167 right now. You'd be getting a total steal. Just a heads up though, people sniff out deals like that instantly, so you better move fast. 😬
