Survival of the Dead (2009)Not fun, not tense, not scary, and definitely not smart... if you want a quick summary, there you go. It follows a group of survivors stuck on an island caught in the middle of a feud between two warring families—which has its moments of charm, I guess—but overall? It’s just bad. The only saving grace is the humor; there are bits where you might actually get a decent laugh out of it, plus the plot is slightly more coherent than in > and the pacing feels a bit better. The rest is just... stuff you've seen a thousand times before, underdeveloped, and honestly just stupid (like, how is the internet working perfectly in a post-apocalyptic world? Seriously?)... and there isn't a single ounce of genuine dread to be found. Only watch this if you consider it part of >'s catalog—and specifically the bottom-tier stuff.

Two short reviews here, and the second one isn't exactly feeling the old George or his increasingly mediocre attempts at the genre that made him famous. Chasing sequels is all about quantity these days, but the quality is clearly tanking—if it hasn't already vanished entirely...

Dawn of the Dead, hands down...

Dawn of the Dead from 2004. I’ve seen them all, and I guess that one just has the best atmosphere, plot, score—everything.

If you look at the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead... I've seen them all, and for me, that one just hits different. It has the best atmosphere, the best pacing, the soundtrack—everything is just better.

Just my honest take from start to finish. 👍

Honestly, I don’t care how much of a total disaster a movie might be; I would genuinely rather sit through any trashy zombie flick than waste my time on some other genre... It is just an inescapable part of my psyche, I suppose, where I find myself constantly daydreaming about how I would actually fare if a zombie apocalypse broke out right now. 🙂

I just saw that The Amusement Park finally got a 4K restoration. It actually looks pretty interesting...

I've only ever seen the first one, Night of the Living Dead. Honestly? It’s easily one of the top 10 horror movies I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I just caught a screening of Six Flags. It’s some kind of experimental Romero-style slaughterhouse flick. Honestly, the whole thing feels like this bizarre, surrealist dimension where weirdness just happens for the sake of happening, without any real purpose... The movie just drags through scene after scene that lack any cohesive logic, to the point where I actually lost interest and found myself scrolling through my phone just to pass the time. You’ve got this old man playing the lead, and the supposed "message" is some heavy-handed lesson about not neglecting our elderly... Whatever vision he had for developing this story, he completely failed to execute it.
