I just recently discovered Justin Vernon, and I am honestly, completely obsessed 😍

Just checking in with my latest thoughts from Paris at the Pitchfork Festival. Justin Vernon basically proved what his studio albums already hinted at—he’s a once-in-a-generation genius. Honestly, he’s the kind of talent you just don't see often, and he delivers it in a way that leaves everyone feeling absolutely incredible.

The new album is honestly great.

I can't remember the last time an album hit me this fast. Swallowed it. It’s "for Emm, Forever aga." But look—as much as his debut was a masterpiece, damn, that follow-up is just weak. It isn't a total disaster; there are a few tracks that actually land, but the whole thing is just incredibly tedious. Honestly. 😢

Look, I’m telling you, the debut absolutely floored me. It was one of those "holy crap, this is easily the best album of the year" moments. But then the follow-up dropped, and I was like, "Okay, I might be exaggerating, but this is actually the greatest album ever made." Seriously, I think they actually managed to top themselves. Usually, the die-hard fans of the first record end up hating the sequel—that's just how it goes. But honestly? I think a lot of that hate is just pure posturing rather than any actual issues with the music or the lyrics...

So I hate the second album, does that make me a poser? I don't get you. I'm actually intimidated. 😕

Real talk though, his inspiration actually came from the American Civil War... those drums and pedals? They absolutely wreck you. It feels like standing right in the middle of a literal battlefield.😍

The debut record was truly exceptional, but the second one... everything following the Tower feels quite tedious and repetitive. Judging by those first few tracks, I genuinely believed this would surpass the first album. It’s disappointing to realize I was mistaken.

I've listened to most of his albums, but there's only one I find myself looping year after year. It's always been for Emm.
This falls into that category of albums that feel almost too personal for me to share. As soon as "Flume" starts playing, I’m gone—just completely checked out from reality. It’s wild how effectively it pulls you into its own little universe. Before I know it, I'm just sitting there humming along. I'm my mother's only child. Just me. That's that. I feel like... My mother's the only one. Even though there were only four of us. 😁

Honestly, everyone already spilled the beans on how Emma is an absolute treasure. And they're right—it’s innovative, fresh, a little bit moody and melancholic, but just gorgeous. It really hit home when it first came out. Now? I feel like we've almost moved on from it already.

So, I'm listening to this new one right now... honestly, there's just way too much autotune and electronic stuff for my taste so far 🤔

Just another hipster pretender playing music that sounds absolutely grating and tuneless. It’s pure arrogance, totally lacking even a shred of actual talent.

Just finished listening to the whole thing. The way the album flows really changed my perspective... 🙂 Honestly, it's just solid. A pretty great listen overall.

Listened to the album on my commute today. It didn't really click for me. Like someone else already pointed out, there’s just way too much autotune and extra stuff. Lots of static and some screeching noises, too. I’ll give it one more spin, but honestly, Justin Vernon and I only seem to be on the same wavelength when it comes to Emma. Feels like he’s trying a bit too hard.

Justin Vernon just completely blows your mind and touches your soul. 🙂

He’s always been full of himself. To me, he just seems like a lazy, mediocre talent who knows he can coast because his fanbase doesn't really know what a decent song even sounds like.

I just couldn't really get into this new album. Honestly, the first one is still my favorite—it’s just more of that chill background music you put on while you're getting stuff done, at least for me. I see they've got a tour coming up next year, though. Anyone planning on going?
