Here is my situation: I don't drink coffee because I can't stand the taste, but I consume quite a few energy drinks instead. One a day isn't an excessive amount, yet I feel completely unable to function without Red Bull or something similar. My stomach occasionally aches, and I’ve realized it's due to the drinks, but even knowing that, I still drink them. Am I addicted? What should I do? Could this cause serious long-term damage? This has been going on for about two to two and a half years.

Sure, addiction is a real risk here. Even coffee addicts have it bad, but the caffeine doses in these things are on a whole different level. Plus, you’re looking at typical digestive issues as a side effect. It’s best to cut it out as soon as possible.
The move is to taper off gradually rather than quitting cold turkey, aiming to be completely done within a week. During that transition, you should probably take some antacids to protect your stomach. You can just grab some over-the-counter at a CVS or Walgreens, or ask your doctor for a recommendation.
Then there’s the psychological component. That depends on how deep the habit goes and what exactly you're using the stimulants to mask. Are you trying to fight off exhaustion because you aren't sleeping? Or are you using them to patch up a depressive mood? ...
All of that might—and I mean *might*—uncover underlying issues that would require actual medical treatment once the fog clears.

I hadn't looked at it from that angle before. It’s true that I don’t sleep much, though perhaps not as little as it seems. Dealing with some family issues has me reconsidering my situation regarding depression and addiction. The dependency feels quite deep; I didn't use it during my first pregnancy, but I started shortly after. By the time my second pregnancy arrived, I was constantly finding excuses to take it. Now that this cycle has become a long-term pattern, I realize it's time to take action. Thank you very much.

Hold up, you’re actually addicted to Red Bull? Do yourself a favor and grab five more right now just so you can realize how pathetic that sounds. Imagine if someone walked up to you and said, "Hey, I think I'm hooked on energy drinks." You'd laugh in their face, wouldn't you? Seriously, find a real problem to worry about. 😬

It might sound ridiculous, but there are actually people out there with a level of insight comparable to Vigilante, capable of seeing the deeper issues hidden beneath those "ridiculous" dependencies that truly need addressing.
