That whole subplot involving those kids might actually be the most infuriating part of the movie for me... it just doesn't hold water unless you assume they were all hypnotized or some kind of extreme brainwashing was involved, because there's no way they did all that just to follow a trend.

I don’t know who decided to dig this thread up after all this time, but man, this movie is absolutely killer.

I remember binge-watching basically all those Japanese—well, Asian—films back in the day, maybe seven or eight years ago, just tearing through them one after another in one massive sitting.

It’s a unique culture, and their movies reflect that perfectly; honestly, it's essential viewing for any true cinephile out there.☕

I didn't catch all those details myself, I just know how it goes when the entire internet starts acting like idiots. But there’s a massive difference between convincing someone to act like a fool or even drink something potentially dangerous, and actually manipulating a crowd of people into taking their own lives.
(spoiler) Look, I get the film's trend and the manipulation involved, which was honestly executed quite well, it's just that specific scene didn't sit right with me. I felt like the characterization was lacking, so I couldn't truly buy into their motives for why they chose to end it all. With those other high school movies, the students barely had any dialogue, so you can always write it off as some mystical, inexplicable phenomenon... but here, they were very literal. They started out joking around like, "hey, suicide is cool," and then the contagion spread so fast that most of them felt forced to jump. They even pulled that one girl down who wasn't even supposed to go over the edge.

It was that whole Blue Whale Challenge thing.

There are plenty of oddballs in Japan
Take away the casinos from Americans... then you'll see what real crazies look like
There’d be enough material there for a few movies, I guess..
