I had such a lovely little surprise today when I stumbled upon an article about a new movie based on the books by Darren Shan😍.

What actually happens when you're turned into a vampire against your own will? You’re forced to drink human blood just to stay alive, yet you don't exactly see yourself as the villain from some old horror flick. It’s a heavy burden for someone who was just a normal kidβ€”polite, kind, and totally ordinary. This moral tug-of-war facing our young narrator and protagonist, Darren Shan, feels even more intense in this sequel. Back in the first book, Darren agrees to become a half-vampire just to save his best friend Steve's life. To follow the rules of the transition, he has to fake his own death, be buried alive, and then eventually be dug up as a half-human wanderer without a home or any friends left. This next chapter follows Darren's new, isolated existence as a half-vampire, living with the cursed blood of his mentor, Mr. Crepsley, running through his veins.

Naturally, Darren has quite a learning curve ahead of him regarding his new supernatural reality. For instance, he's discovering that fangs don't just sprout out of nowhere, even though he originally assumed that was a universal thing for all vampires. He can't shapeshift or fly either, and it turns out the only real side effect of eating garlic is just having bad breath... But honestly, the toughest part will be when he joins the freak show, the very traveling troupe that caused so much trouble for him and Steve.

With werewolves, Snake Boy, and a whole gallery of bizarre characters, the excitement is going to be off the charts. And if you aren't already hooked, reading this sequel will simply make you fall in love with Darren, a boy who would truly go to the ends of the earth for the sake of friendship.

I finished reading the first two books in the series a long time ago and they were absolutely wonderful, so I am counting down the days until the movie comes out!😍😍😍😍. Has anyone else here read them? I'd love to hear what you think about the plot and your overall impressions of the trailer.

You were just a normal kidβ€”decent, kind, regular. That’s the core struggle for our protagonist, Darren Shan, in this sequel. In the first book, Darren agrees to become a half-vampire just to save his buddy Steve's life. To play by the rules, he has to fake his own death, get buried alive, and then be dug up as a half-human outcast with no home and no friends. This sequel follows Darren's new, lonely life as a half-vampire, fueled by the cursed blood of his mentor, Mr. Crepsley.

Obviously, Darren has a lot to learn about being supernatural. For instance, his fangs won't grow, even though he thought that was part of the deal. He can't shapeshift or fly, and garlic just gives him bad breath... The real kicker comes when he joins the freak show, the very act that caused all the trouble for him and Steve.

Between the werewolf, Snake Boy, and a whole gallery of weirdos, things are going to get wild. If you aren't bored already, reading this sequel will make you actually care about Darrenβ€”a kid who'd do anything for his friends.

don't be 100% sure the plot hasn't changed. On IMDb, the author said the changes are huge and you should watch the movie without any bias. Basically, don't think about the books; just view it as something completely new.

πŸ™‚πŸ™‚I’m so jealous... it’s such a bummer that we never get all πŸ™‚ released here at the same time, though I am absolutely counting down the days until the movie comes out because I’m just so incredibly curious about it...
As for what you mentioned regarding the changesβ€”I actually caught his review of the trailer, and honestly, it didn't seem to land for me; it feels like they aren't really looking to reinvent the wheel or add anything wildy different. My hope is that they’ll stay pretty faithful to a book, so any tweaks should probably stay within reasonable limits (fingers crossed πŸ™‚ )

I’ve been following this series for quite a while now, and I’ve been waiting an absolute eternity for the second installment to finally arrive, so hopefully the third one follows right on its heels...πŸ‘

*if I recall correctly, there are 13 books in total

You can already pick up the third installment in English right here in the States, and the rest of the series is currently being prepared for the American market πŸ‘‹

I haven't read a book, but I get the impression the movie feels a bit silly, almost "goofy" πŸ™‚.
Are the books like that tooβ€”fun and lightheartedβ€”or is the plot actually more serious?
This feels like it could be a comedy.

Feels like a comedy to me.

Regarding the movie, it’s not really a comedyβ€”they just try too hard to make the trailer look fun.
As for the books, they get darker with every installment. I'd say the last four are straight-up top-tier, hardcore horror.

@ Ashley Hall48 - there aren't 13 sequels, it's 12.

I’m seeing conflicting info onlineβ€”some places say 12, while others claim 13...

No, I wouldn't call it a comedy at all... maybe the trailer gives off that vibe, but a book isn't quite like that... you should definitely give it a read and see for yourselfπŸ˜‰
