Greetings!

About a month and a half ago, you all helped me brainstorm a build, focusing just on the case at the time. I decided to hold off for a bit, and honestly, the price drops lately have been a nice little bonus. I have a much clearer idea of what I’m aiming for now, so I’ll be posting the full list here soon to get your stamp of approval 😁 Right now, though, I need some solid advice on a power supply. I'm looking for something around 500W—basically a "best buy" situation. I want the most budget-friendly option possible, provided it isn't total junk! I need something reliable that can actually take a hit...

If you grab an EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 for $573, maybe swap the case for a Cooler Master Hyper 212 and you could probably get away with a cheaper power supply:

or maybe this one:

The build would be pretty much the same, just with a few tweaks—I’d probably swap out the GPU for a GTX 1060 or maybe even a 480... I was wondering, though, could I get away with a slightly weaker power supply? Or perhaps there's a cheaper option available, or is what you listed the absolute bare minimum... I know I'm being a total nitpicker, but I really want to squeeze every last drop of performance out of every single component, even if it means spending a bit extra in July. I have this obsessive streak about these things and I just can't help myself.

I wouldn't dream of stepping down to a weaker power supply than this EVGA one

Hey everyone! If anything else pops up over the next few days, just toss it my way here.

Eh, honestly? You're better off grabbing this one instead: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Power-Supply-600-W-Bronze/dp/B01M0PZ6L2

It's just a massive step up.

What kind of power supply am I looking at here? http://www.nabava.net/search.php?&q=AMD%20ts

Is this sufficient for an average user?

Pretty decent, I guess

That AMD card isn't half bad if you're specifically looking for that wattage...

Honestly, even 300W feels overkill for my setup. But fine, if I end up upgrading down the road, at least I’ll know I didn't buy total junk.

What kind of power supply would you recommend? My PC is a bit older and isn't exactly a powerhouse.
I have an Intel Pentium G2030 running at 3GHz.
Memory: 4GB.
GPU: Radeon HD 7700 1GB, if I recall correctly.
I might eventually pick up another 4GB stick of RAM just to get my total up to 8GB.

I'm running a Microsoft 400W or 450W power supply. It doesn't feel particularly reliable since it's three years old now. I actually heard some chirping coming from it recently, though it stopped after I posted about it here.

I’d probably swap it out for something decent that won't break the bank. Just enough to keep this rig running smoothly until I finally pull the trigger on a new build—which isn't exactly in my immediate plans.😁

Your GPU is pulling maybe 80W at most, and the rest of your setup probably sits around 30W... honestly, that LC Power Silver unit from Amazon would be a perfect fit for you.

Looking back at it now, almost any setup would get the job done since it isn't exactly a powerhouse configuration. My Microsoft system has served me well for three years and is still going strong. A friend of mine mentioned he's been using his Microsoft gear for several years too, so I think I'll just head over to a local electronics store and pick something up.

It’s a step up from Microsoft, but honestly, if you can scrape together another $100$50 you should grab an NVIDIA GTX 430 or find a 450w unit with a 5-year warranty (you can pick those up cheap downtown)

Look, I know you can get a top-tier power supply for $350$133...but that's more for when I build my next rig.
Right now, I just need something to limp along for another year until I upgrade.
This Microsoft one seems fine, though it made a weird chirping sound a few days ago. It's acting normal now, but I'm worried it might just die on me.🙄

Man, this LC unit is $80, and you can probably snag a Hex one for $100. Or maybe just grab an Antec or that LC power silver mentioned earlier. $20, plus you could actually reuse that PSU for a new build down the road.

I was actually planning on handing that rig over to my parents once I upgrade to a new one, so I’d end up needing to buy a power supply again anyway..
I'll figure it out, I'll find something.. anyway, thanks for all the help.
