It didn't sound half bad when I first spun it, but man, the CD just feels like it wore out way too fast 😢

Honestly, this is one of my all-time favorite bands. unnamed is absolute perfection—they’ve got plenty of other solid tracks, too. I am seriously counting down the days until the new album drops.

There was a period where I actually avoided them altogether. Honestly, I think I just assumed their songwriting was a bit too bleak for my personal taste.

But then, everything changed when I finally grasped the true weight behind the song unnamed... At first, it just blew me away, and before I knew it, I was hooked on the rest of their discography. It’s incredible how they build a track, starting from that very first note and layering in new instruments until it just feels massive. And the lyrics? Absolutely top-tier.

I'm just glad I finally gave them a fair shake when I did, otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here counting down the days until the new album drops!

Anyone planning on hitting up the concert? 😬

Now that the concert is officially in the books, I thought it was the perfect time to bump this thread back up to the top. 😬

Since 👋 just released their first single from the upcoming album, which was unnamed, I’ve been sitting here thinking about what should come next—personally, I’m really rooting for unnamed to be the follow-up. 😍

I know "Strangers" is an absolute standout too, but there's just something about this one that hits differently for me; it’s such a fantastic track, and honestly, hearing it performed live was a total highlight for me.

I’m having a really hard time shaking Greater Than US from my head; it’s just... 😁 At first, I was pretty skeptical—I mean, is this really what they're offering us right after Death? But honestly, the track is so infectious that you just have to lie down and let it wash over you until you’re totally obsessed.

As for the rest of the tracks, I’ve probably only heard them once, and I’m planning to hold off on anything else until the full album finally drops. There’s just nothing quite like that feeling of hearing a song for the very first time in its studio version, with all that crisp, high-end production quality.

Same here. When I first heard it, I thought, "Okay, this is good," but nothing too crazy. Then, out of nowhere, I found myself humming the melody for three days straight. 😁

Because honestly, no matter how much people try to draw parallels to Joy Division (and sure, they have that certain Divisionist 😁 vibe), they just aren't actually that similar. Even if we just look at the tiny gap in timing—only about thirty years apart, nothing too crazy.

To my ears, there's really only one single track that shares any production qualities with them, and even that isn't even on their main album. 🤷

When it comes to the lyrical themes—you know, death, love, fear, and those fundamental things everyone ponders—there are plenty of bands out there who bumble through those topics much less successfully.

The real distinction between Joy Division and The White Stripes is that The White Stripes tend to write more generalized lyrics, moving away from that intense, self-destructive, and depressive edge. If we're going to be pedantic about it.

Maybe you're looking at a sanitized version? 😁 It wouldn't exactly be "sanitized" if the frontman started acting erratically on stage, collapsing from seizures, and eventually taking his own life. 😳

But honestly, looking at it again, he actually trashed The White Stripes, and I guess he was totally right to do it.

My point was—it really bugs me when people compare anyone to Joy Division. They're a total one-off, something you just can't replicate. It makes zero sense to take every random band with slightly dark lyrics and act like they're the next Joy Division. There, I said it!

I’m not usually one to get into debates with people who don't quite grasp a good joke, but I suppose I can give this a shot.

The comparison exists simply because they shared an influence, and their lyrics often touch on similar themes.
As for you feeling personally attacked because you're such a (perhaps even fanatic?) Joy Division devotee—well, that sounds like a "you" problem.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Depeche Mode too; I think they are truly one of a kind ( 🤣 ), so it doesn't bother me at all when people draw parallels to them—not that most journalists actually mean anything by those comparisons anyway.

I didn't mean to start an argument, nor was it my intention. I’m also not some die-hard Joy Division fanatic, but the fact remains: they are a one-of-a-kind band for several reasons. I have no issue with musicians influencing one another—that's just part of the music—but it really bugs me when people use lazy logic like "every lefty guitarist equals Hendrix." 😁
