Could I have HIV?

Am I going blind or is there seriously zero discussion here about HIV/AIDS? I just typed "HIV AIDS" into the search bar and came up with absolutely nothing...
So, one quick question because I’m freaking out. I was with this girl today who seemed pretty sketchy—she told me straight up she’s hooked up with 3 or 4 guys recently and never uses protection. Like, ever. I was just sitting there like, wtf...😲
But look, I'm a guy, right? I ended up hooking up with her... let's just say things got oral. You can't catch AIDS through saliva, right?
The thing is, I'm really worried because I was fingering her while she was performing on me, and obviously, she was soaking wet. Then I used those same fingers to stroke myself later. Is it possible to catch HIV that way? And please, don't take this as a joke or think I'm being crude on purpose—I'm genuinely stressed out here.

Also, if there's even a tiny chance I caught something, can someone tell me where I can go for testing in the States? And how long do I actually have to wait before a test becomes accurate? I read somewhere that you have to wait a certain amount of time for it to even show up on a screen...

Contrary to what everyone seems to believe, HIV isn't actually that easy to pick up—so if she really is positive and you had unprotected sex, huge is the probability that you'd walk away totally fine.

There are plenty of threads about HIV; you just clearly don't know how to use Google properly.

Maybe you managed to sweep up a whole swarm of viruses and bacteria—everything from gonorrhea and herpes to hepatitis, whatever acronym you want to throw at it—all the way up to HIV, regardless of how slim the chances might be... but hey, don't sweat it; by God's grace, everything works out in the end.

The odds of picking up HIV from casual sexual contact are basically 0.2%. For the virus to actually get into your system, you need an open wound to act as a doorway. During sex, tiny microscopic tears can form on the mucous membranes, and that’s how the virus slips in. If there isn't a wound, the virus isn't getting in—so things like masturbation are totally fine, unless you're being incredibly rough and actually scrape the skin raw.

The CDC just dropped some new data regarding HIV trends—apparently, we're still playing catch-up with infection rates. It’s one of those "here we go again" moments, isn't it? Is anyone actually surprised at this point?

By that logic, we should just encourage everyone to stop using condoms entirely, since they clearly weren't part of the unlucky group that actually caught something.

HIV is spread through unprotected sex, and if you want to play games with statistics, go talk to the Pope. 👍

Do you honestly think everyone who caught HIV after two or three hookups with strangers had visible wounds? HIV lives in bodily fluids. Nobody is disputing that it’s most concentrated in blood, but semen and other fluids are just as infectious.

Luckily, we live in an area where HIV isn't nearly as rampant... so I doubt the original poster actually contracted the virus, but that doesn't make them bulletproof. It certainly doesn't mean having sex without a condom is safe just because you aren't bleeding out. 🤷

The number of people living with HIV in America is roughly 1.2 million, compared to a total population of about 330 million. That puts the percentage of the US population living with HIV at approximately 0.36%. That’s essentially your baseline probability of having encountered someone who is HIV positive. Furthermore, even if that person *was* positive, the statistical likelihood of transmission during a single encounter is incredibly low.

That said, the risk isn't zero—not from a medical standpoint, and certainly not from a statistical one. I find myself partially agreeing with Angela Wright on this one. If you're looking to get tested, you can find information regarding counseling centers and HIV testing sites here.

If you're hanging around Washington, D.C., just head up toward the city center to the infectious disease clinic—it's right where the 14 bus heads uphill 😁—and go get tested. It won't take long, and while you're there, you might as well grab some free condoms 😁... just stop being so reckless...
