How does the view count for a thread actually work?
Does it track every single click, or is it based on unique users and guests?
For instance, if a thread shows 500 views, does that mean 500 different people or guests read it? Or could it just be 50 different Americans or guests clicking on it multiple times?

And how are guests even counted, if they are? 😕

From what I understand, guest visits are included in those metrics, yeah.
It’s not like they’re counting every single click from the same person.
They likely track unique visitors based on their IP addresses.

I believe we are looking at unique visits to the specific link or thread itself. It shouldn't matter whether a user is registered or not; what counts is simply who opened the topic, provided we are indeed measuring unique visits.

Roughly twenty minutes later 6,282

Actually, it isn't counting unique visitors, but rather tracking every single click made on the site.
You could easily verify this yourself by testing it out with an older theme.

I suspect what might be causing some confusion is the fact that clicks don't show up instantly; there is typically a slight delay before a specific click is processed and reflected in your total visitor count.
