Hi everyone. I’m reaching out to get some perspective on a situation I’m facing. My mother has caught me using marijuana about four or five times now, and she’s reached her breaking point. She wants me to drop out of college and check into a rehab facility for a few months to get clean. I could potentially understand that if we were talking about hard drugs, but I’ve been smoking weed for three or four years and there are even stretches where I don't touch it at all. The issue is that when it comes to substance use, my mother refuses to make any distinction; to her, marijuana is just as devastating as heroin. She has given me an ultimatum: either I go to rehab, or I start taking responsibility for myself by finding a job. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I should also emphasize that I have never, ever used anything else.

You’re totally spot on there, and honestly, if I were in your shoes, I’d be doing the exact same thing. The real issue is that you’re just brushing this under the rug and trying to make it seem like no big deal, but man, you really need to sit down and face that head-on by yourself...
Another thing is, I find it hard to wrap my head around how someone back in 2009—especially someone actually in college at the time—would even bother posting stuff like this while completely ignoring the fact that pretty much every single addict out there started out with weed... and I bet you were probably sitting there crafting these same silly excuses in your mind just to justify what you were doing.

Anyway, I’m signing off from this thread because I have zero interest in getting sucked into an endless debate about whether marijuana is good or bad.
