What should I expect during an extensive exam at the Urology Department?

So, I’ve been having some real issues with my bladder lately, basically just peeing all the time... It gets pretty bad where I feel this sudden, desperate urge to go, but then it’s just a few drops when I actually get there. And the flow is just totally messed up, it starts and stops and starts again like it can't make up its mind... Anyway, I finally got a referral to the Urology Department at a major hospital here in the city, and the suspected diagnosis is prostate hyperplasia, SUSP, so they want to do an expanded exam. Does anyone actually know what that entails? Like, is it going to be painful or what? My doctor also mentioned something about maybe doing a swab or a test, but I have no clue how that even works...

My husband underwent this exact same battery of tests at Mayo Clinic—they practically stripped him bare for the occasion 😬. They did a full urine collection, an urethral swab, a manual palpation exam (the whole standard routine involving the testes, prostate, and bladder), plus a complete renal ultrasound. Mind you, that was over a year ago, so I might have glossed over a few clinical details, but that was the gist of it.🤷
