I got home today to find that my mom had sat down and bought some black pumpkin seed oil at a fair in a small town in the Midwest (though you can also find it at the local farmers market in Savannah). $13It’s from a smuggler.
I know that guy drives all the way from Austria to buy his supplies in bulk at Hofer, where he gets everything for about a third of the price.

The website provided outlines information regarding specific product details and technical specifications available through Hofer.

So, that means there's a 200% profit margin per gallon.
Just swap out the label and resell it.

It honestly breaks my heart to see seniors who are already struggling just to get by falling for scams like this.

It still bothers me that a smuggler like that probably has someone on the border looking the other way.

Both of them really ought to be reported!!!!

I know this guy. We ended up side-by-side at a trade show once—he was hawking oil and I was selling clothes. Man was moving product like crazy, maybe a hundred sales an hour? His trunk was absolutely packed with bottles; he cleared out a massive haul in just a few hours.

He kept insisting it was locally sourced, artisanal stuff. They were in glass bottles, mostly, all looking pretty much identical with the same labels and everything.

And look, if you aren't the type to go out and hit the grocery stores, it’s just easier to hand him $13.

Unfortunately, he isn't the only one.
I've seen people acting like this in Washington, D.C., at local farmers' markets, or even just out in the suburbs...
But it really hurts when it affects retirees like my mother.
Next time I see him at the market, I might just have to ask him: "Do you have no shame?"
And where exactly are you crossing the border?
At which checkpoint?
Or are you finding some way around, through areas where there's no oversight and only an occasional patrol?
Because then
I'll be reporting both you and whatever corrupt customs officer or cop is letting you slide right through!😠

How much does that oil actually go for at the local grocery store, and do you think they’re peddling any fake stuff?

That oil at Hofer costs about $2.20
around $5.00
it’s actually just 20% pumpkin seed oil mixed with 80% white oil
it's basically just salad oil
but he's selling it for $13 and tricking people into thinking it's pure black oil.

It’d be better to put that warning on the "Savannah" thread instead.🤷

I agree with that. The moderator can handle it if they want to.

Man, I bet even the guys at Customs are lurking on this forum now. They're probably just waiting for us to tip our hands. 🤣

There won't be any more oil left in the yard. 😁

They aren't at the farmer's market anymore, but I spotted them today over at the fairgrounds—they're selling that oil at the old tavern

Heh... well, I actually got into it with him today. He’s standing there, blowing his horn, insisting the stuff is locally produced... meanwhile, I bought some at Target just two weeks ago and recognized the packaging immediately. So, I tell him, "Look, this is clearly from Hofer," and he goes—and I quote—"Get lost! What do you know about local oil?" Honestly, the guy is a total wreck; I almost lost my cool with him.🤣🤣

A few friends and I were just standing there watching the show, wondering why on earth he was yelling so loud—it was absolute chaos...😕hahhahha

So I tell him, "Look, man, I got this at a Trader Joe's," and he just snaps. I kid you not, he goes: "Get lost, what do you know about local oil?" Honestly, what a loser. Someone should probably knock some sense into him.🤣 🤣

Me and a few buddies were just standing there watching the show, wondering which idiot was gonna lose their mind first. Total chaos...😕hahhahha

😂😂🙏🙏

Ha, ha, aren't they just a ray of sunshine?

I heard them too. One of them tried to lecture me, and I just laid into him with a few choice words. I was left speechless. 😲
