Out of my five fighters, four finished things early 👍
but one got disqualified—after playing games with his opponent, he threw an illegal strike that ended up knocking teeth out. 👎

Robin Palmer3, 👍

I think it’s been obvious for quite some time now that at the national level here in America, the UFK Ban-Dubrav just doesn't have any real competition, at least when it comes to UFC fighting...🙏🙏🙏

Džebić handled Šančić—who's a genuinely good guy and a class athlete—with total ease.

I'll add my congratulations to the pile as well.

One guy actually got disqualified because he spent too much time playing games with his opponent before finally landing an illegal strike that knocked his teeth out.👎

A buddy of mine from college had a rough day at school. This guy absolutely dismantled him—split lip, shredded tissue, five stitches, and a fractured single root. Honestly, the tooth is so loose you could almost knock it out just by looking at it. Hopefully, they can save it. Either way, he’s in for a hell of a time over the next few months.
I didn't get a chance to catch up with him because I was tied up with work. But if he’s saying he took that hit while pulling a lever on his leg—even if the shin guard actually cracked—I have some questions. From a professional standpoint, I’m curious: what kind of shin guards are your guys using, or what do fighters in general typically wear? And how do they actually feel about them? Are we talking about those cheap "boil and bite" ones you pick up for a few bucks, or something more substantial?
Thanks.

A buddy of mine from college was competing the other day—and man, this guy absolutely wrecked him. We're talking a split lip, shredded tissue, five stitches, a fractured incisor, and a tooth that wobbles just by looking at it... hopefully they can save it. Either way, he’s got a rough few months ahead of him.
I didn't get a chance to catch up with him since I was stuck at work, but if he had mentioned taking that hit while working a leg scissor—even with a shin guard—well, I'm curious from a professional standpoint. If you guys know, what kind of guards are your fighters actually using, and are they any good? Are we talking about those cheap "boil and bite" ones you find for twenty bucks?
thanks

The guys I train have decent mouthguards, but honestly, no amount of protection would've stopped a hit like that. It was a heel strike straight to the teeth (a down kick in the guard)—which is strictly illegal in ground fighting. My fighter wasn't even thinking about aiming for the face; he was targeting the solar plexus (which is bad enough), but his opponent popped his head up at the exact wrong moment, and then everything went to hell. My guy was automatically disqualified, but that doesn't do much for the injured fighter. Unfortunately, these things happen, but there was absolutely no intent on my fighter's part—he felt terrible about the whole situation afterward.

Where do I even start?
:///

I once took a hit right to my unit and two (car parts).
I've been dealing with various lingering issues from it for years now.
In a few days, I'm heading in for surgery.

I just want a fast recovery, man!

Unfortunately, those kinds of injuries happen. My fighter truly didn't intend for that to occur, and he felt terrible about the whole situation afterward.

Understood. Things happen; sometimes it just sucks. 😢

Since we're on the subject, I’ll give some general advice regarding mouthguards:
The gold standard—and the most expensive route, costing roughly $83 or more—is getting custom-made guards from a dentist. These consist of two or three layers of high-grade material. They are reinforced at critical impact points and are perfectly anatomical to the individual. Because they fit the teeth so precisely, breathing remains easy.
Unlike the "boil-and-bite" versions, you don't have to worry about a poor fit where you end up biting down unevenly or too hard, which ruins the protection and makes breathing difficult. Don't even bother with those cheap, mass-produced ones; they're garbage.

For perspective, a metal-ceramic bridge to replace a lost tooth costs about $433 per unit. You'd need three units. The best option, an implant, runs around $1,000. And that's not even mentioning the pain, the constant doctor visits, surgeries, loss of function, aesthetics, and long recovery times...
Stay safe out there. 😉

Quick question; what’s the actual point of dental gum?

rustyangler02 said:So, I’ve been thinking about this lately... what is the actual, primary purpose of dental gum? Is it just about keeping things clean, or is there more to the story than that...

You really ought to be careful not to chip a tooth if you bite down too hard, or even worse, end up with a dislocated jaw from taking a heavy hit...🤷

Gerald Smith76, do you happen to know any dentists in Chicago where I could get that made?

What do you mean by "actual"?
They protect teeth from fractures and impact, cushion trauma to soft tissue (lips, cheeks, and gums), and reduce the force transferred to the jaw joint and brain—essentially preventing or mitigating concussions and potential jaw injuries...
All of this depends heavily on the quality of the guard.

I actually have one in mind too, just in case Juji can't help out.
