I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about people being addicted to all sorts of things, but I honestly had no clue this one even existed until a friend dropped by the other day and confessed she’s been doing this for years. She’s basically putting alcohol vinegar in absolutely everything—drowning her salads in it, cooking with it, you name it. It’s become this daily ritual for her. Has anyone else ever run into someone with this kind of obsession? And more importantly, how much of a health risk are we actually talking about with consuming that much acid? Thanks in advance!

So, I’ve got this weird thing where my stomach just struggles with meat, especially when it's covered in heavy sauces. What I’ve found helps is adding a bit more acid to my salad, or maybe splashing some red wine vinegar into the sauce itself—then it feels fine. If I eat it plain without any vinegar, I get this heavy, bloated feeling, and honestly, sometimes I even feel a little nauseous. Since our stomachs produce acid anyway, I figure having moderate amounts of vinegar with a meal shouldn't really be an issue. I mean, obviously, if someone was just drinking straight vinegar instead of water... 😂

Why would anyone call that an addiction just because you like adding a splash of vinegar to your food?🤷If we’re going by that logic, you could claim to be an addict for pretty much anything you enjoy—for instance, I guess I'm officially addicted to Parmesan cheese.🙂

Oh, sure, seasoning food is totally normal... but even she’s starting to think she’s taking it a bit too far. She’s been doing this since she was a kid—I'm talking about dousing things in enough vinegar to make her entire mouth sting, yet she still keeps right on eating. I've seen her literally dip bread into straight vinegar. She just can't stop. It's a daily ritual at this point.
I'm just curious, though... how much damage can all that distilled white vinegar actually do to your health?

Hey... so I used to be absolutely obsessed with vinegar. Like, straight up undiluted stuff, just slamming it down. Then one day, my stomach just decided to revolt—nausea, vomiting, the whole nine yards. Ended up with a nasty case of gastritis, and now? Yeah, I can't touch anything spicy or acidic without feeling like death. So, seriously, tell your friend she needs to chill out on the vinegar habit before her stomach starts staging a protest too. Trust me, she’ll regret it once it hits, just like I regret being so stubborn when everyone told me this wasn't a good idea.🙂 It’s honestly all about how you get used to things. I used to think I couldn't survive a single meal without drenching my salads in vinegar and spice, but now that my palate has adjusted? I don't even want to look at it.

I really don't care for vinegar at all. My biggest pet peeve is when a salad is overdone with it, making everything taste way too acidic. I just can't bring myself to eat a salad like that.
