The 955BE isn't even on shelves anymore. If he's actually going to sell his gear just to pick up a used processor that offers basically zero performance gains, he's just spinning his wheels. And when he finally does buy something, I bet he'll just grab a single unit instead of going for a CF setup.

I had to. It remains my favorite processor to date; I've developed a strange sort of attachment to it🙂, despite it being typical AMD junk🙂

Yeah, back when they were actually available, they were an absolute steal. You got incredible bang for your buck, and you could overclock them like crazy. They aren't really on the market anymore, and even if you could find one, jumping from an 840 to a 955 just isn't worth the hassle...

He doesn't necessarily need to buy something brand new. Buying used saves a significant amount of cash; an 7870 would be more than enough for $300 and similar setups.
The 955be is certainly potentially faster—you know exactly what I'm getting at here🙂.

Since we're already talking about Phenom and the 955BE, GUESS WHO'S BACK

I guess those Phenom chips make sense if you're looking at an AM3+ build; you could always grab a beefier GPU instead of settling for an FX 6300, then maybe upgrade to an FX 8320 down the road.😁
