So, I went to get my ears pierced just three days ago...
Now one ear is totally swollen up while the other one looks perfectly fine. What am I supposed to do at this point? Can I even stop using the ointment?😕

You need to keep the medical-grade jewelry in for at least two weeks. Clean the piercing with rubbing alcohol (😁) and let it heal naturally. If you experience intense pain or any signs of infection, take the earring out, though keep in mind you'll have to get it re-pierced later.

So, can I just take the IV out, pour some rubbing alcohol on it, and then pop it back in, or am I better off just leaving it alone?

When I finally got my ears pierced, both of them ended up super inflamed and oozing—it was honestly brutal, just constant throbbing and pain. By the fourth day, I decided to ditch those basic medical studs and swapped them out for some gold ones; not even the ones with the screw-backs, but more like those little decorative pieces where the charm hangs down a bit. I did this specifically so the actual piercing hole wasn't being smothered by the earring itself, giving the wound some much-needed breathing room. I was cleaning everything with rubbing alcohol several times a day, both the front and the back, and man, I felt so much better by the second day. It’s actually pretty crucial that the holes stay exposed to the air; if the earring sits flush against the skin, it blocks everything off. Those medical studs you’re wearing, they’re probably those flat little disks that seal the piercing shut from the front, which totally stalls the healing process because there's zero airflow.

Don't even mention it, I really hope you start feeling more like yourself soon. I was just sharing what worked for me, but I also remember this one friend who decided to go through with the ear piercing herself; she ditched the surgical steel on the fourth day, swapped in some solid gold, and honestly, she felt better almost immediately.
