My period stopped about two years ago.

Partly stress, partly because of some meds I had to take.
One doctor told me I should try birth control for maybe six months
to get things moving again.

I just haven't been able to pull myself together to actually see an OB-GYN and start the pills.

Has anyone else dealt with this or gone this long without a cycle?

Hey there—so, I was actually MIA for about a year and a half, but I finally figured things out by getting really into horseback riding and then eventually diving into belly dancing

My doctor honestly can't wrap her head around the fact that I managed to sort this all out without relying on any medication—it’s wild! Now, though, I find myself getting all anxious if my cycle is even just one day late

A little confused by this...

Did you know you can actually lose your cycle just from overdoing it at the gym?

It’s good hearing that from you, but I’m too scared to try fixing my hormones like that. Back when my period disappeared, I was basically living in a manic state—hitting like 1,000 crunches a day.

Anyway, thanks a ton. It helps knowing someone else dealt with this and actually figured it out.

Angela Long64, thanks so much.

Just go see a doctor—it's honestly your best bet.

I'm definitely hitting up the doctor.

Low-key, I can't stop worrying if all this is gonna mess with my chances of having kids later.
Dealing with all this stress just makes me spiral about whether I'll even be a good mom down the road...

Lately, I just find myself saying, "If it's meant to be, it'll happen," and "Only God knows if I'll ever actually get pregnant."

Yeah, it’s way more likely you'll try to fix things here on the forum instead ☕
but good luck either way...

Obviously, I don't expect anyone here to fix my life.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this kind of stuff.
Maybe chatting with the girls will give me that little push I need to actually get started on treatment.

So, how old are you actually? Is early menopause off the table? Look—I don't want to freak you out, but maybe this is just the nudge you need to go get checked out sooner rather than later. 😉

Do you realize that your cycle can actually disappear if you go way too hard with high-intensity workouts?

It’s honestly great to hear that from you—really—but I don't even dare try those "hormone balancing" methods myself. Back when my period completely vanished, I was basically living in a manic state, obsessively doing like 1,000 crunches a day. Total madness.

Anyway, thank you so much. It makes things feel a lot less heavy knowing someone else dealt with this exact mess and actually managed to fix it.

Angela Long64, thank you so much.

I definitely know you can lose it from overtraining, but honestly? I don't think there's any way you could overdo it with just two hours of horseback riding or two hours of belly dancing a week.

And seriously, I have these horrific ovarian cysts—we're talking a level of hormonal imbalance you rarely see—so logically, there's no way my cycle is ever going to be "normal," but I still have 😍

So, I'd really suggest looking into herbal teas and medicinal herb baths, too.

Did you know you can actually lose your period just from being way too active?

That's good to hear coming from you, but I wouldn't dare try any extreme methods to fix my hormones. When I lost my cycle before, I was basically going manic—doing like 1,000 crunches a day.

Aha, so that's what this is about! 😁

You forgot to mention you have anorexia?
Basically, when your body fat drops below a healthy level for a woman, your period just stops.

Start eating and living like a normal person, otherwise you're gonna crash hard.

It happens all the time because of stress. I’ve even read about women in POW camps who would lose their periods entirely, only for things to return to normal once they finally got back to a regular life.
Then you’ve got elite athletes—those girls push themselves through such brutal training sessions that their estrogen levels just crater, causing them to miss cycles too.
And yeah, let’s be real, extreme dieting does the exact same thing. It's true.

Talking things out with other women helps me get motivated to actually start treatment faster.

Look, 🙂, your attitude is just... weird
You haven't had a period in 2 years and instead of seeing a doctor, you're just venting here
What exactly are you looking for? A pep talk to finally take care of yourself?!
Just go see a doctor 😉

Michelle Parker3, menopause isn't the issue here. My doctors warned me from the start that my treatment might mess with my cycle. So yeah, this is just a side effect of the meds.

Angela Long64, moderate workouts and training are fine. I totally misread that. Any specific teas or baths that actually help with this?

silentpanther15, I'm definitely not anorexic. Honestly, I've got a few extra pounds on me. You're something else, though... I did struggle with anorexia and bulimia back in the day, but my cycles were perfectly regular at 28 days then.

Megan Peterson87, I fell into a really dark depression right in the middle of that treatment. Plus, life just kept throwing punches at me. I had to start antidepressants, which also mess with your period. I’m still on them because I haven't quite found my footing again yet.

Sophia Williams10, I get why you think my "behavior" is weird, but hopefully reading all this makes it make a little more sense. And for the record, I never said I wasn't seeing a gynecologist these past two years. I have been. My doctor even agreed that missing a period is pretty standard while on that specific therapy.

Now that one round of treatment is over, I was hoping my cycle would just bounce back on its own, but looks like the antidepressants are blocking that too. Does anyone know if it's even safe to take birth control pills along with antidepressants?

Thanks for checking in, ladies. I'll head to the doctor as soon as my work shifts settle down.

Just got back from my OBGYN appointment.

She gave me a referral for an endocrinologist to get some hormone levels checked out.
A bit nervous about what the numbers might actually show. I've never done this before.

I'll just make the appointment and leave the rest to God...

Just got my hormone labs back.

FSH 67.23

LH 23.02

Looks like I'm officially post-menopausal. Does this mean I've hit menopause and won't be able to have kids?
I'm 35.

If anyone knows what these numbers actually mean, let me know.
