How to compress video files?

I’ve got a massive headache here. I’m using CamStudio to record my tutorials, but the file sizes are absolutely ridiculous—the files are just way too huge. Does anyone know of a decent program to shrink them down or compress them?

What do you mean by "more detail"? I just downloaded CamStudio to record my screen, thinking I’d finally start cranking out some tutorials. The thing is, CamStudio spits out these AVI files—so if I record a quick two-and-a-half-minute clip, I’m looking at maybe 50 or 60 MB... which honestly feels like way too much

To achieve top-tier quality, you should follow this specific formula:

(Movie length in minutes)*8=(Size in MB)

So, regarding that 2.5-minute video of yours, you're better off aiming for a 20 MB file size to ensure the quality remains excellent.

You could also just grab a YouTube converter. It lets you swap the file over to a format with better compression so the size drops, or you can just dial back the quality slightly to shrink it down. You can even drop the resolution if you're really looking to save space.

All of that can be done with Dr. Divx. I was simply stating which formula should be used to achieve the best possible quality. You could compress that video down to 1 MB if you wanted to, but the quality would be absolutely pathetic.

When you compress a video, it’s going to end up with a .divx extension
If you're looking to convert that to an .avi, just rename the file. Simply strip off the .divx at the end and type in .avi instead.

I went out to test this thing a bit. I recorded about 3 and a half minutes at 1280x1024 and ended up with a 9MB file that looks absolutely stunning.
Everything really comes down to how you tweak your video options—which encoder you pick and how you configure it. Your choices will mostly depend on whatever software you happen to have installed on your rig.
In my case, I was running x264 Build data: 29.01.2008, libx264 core 58 svn-736bm (vfw); Single Pass - Lossless, while leaving everything else on the default settings.

You clearly don't even grasp the concept of shareware. You can use it for as long as you damn well please; it doesn't expire on you like some pathetic trial version. You might choose to pay for the software after using it just to clear your conscience, but if you don't, you can still keep using it just like freeware. It's obvious you're pretty weak when it comes to cracking, so I'm not even going to bother explaining it to you.
btw Dr. Divx is freeware.
