So, I’ve got this one issue that isn't exactly easy to explain...
For years now, doctors have been flagging my high bilirubin levels. After I spend a few days being super careful with what I eat and taking it easy physically, they find my bilirubin sitting at 35 (when the max is supposed to be 20). It really gets to me when I think about how high it probably climbs during those stretches where I'm pushing myself too hard physically and—let's be honest—eating whatever I want. But even when I'm actually trying to be good, my "body rhythm" just feels totally off...
The reason I'm starting this thread... is mainly because I want to hear from anyone else dealing with Gilbert's syndrome. How do you guys actually live with it?
I mean, there are days where I am just completely wiped out... totally dead. All I can do is lie there, and even that feels like work sometimes. Thinking? Walking? Zero chance. It’s honestly pretty tough for me to deal with, especially since I've got studying to do, and I really do love staying active.
If I want to stay even remotely "in shape," I have to be incredibly strict with my diet. Which is freaking hard... partly because I genuinely love food and just enjoying a good meal 😉 As for exercise, it's hit or miss depending on the day. Even if I eat right for "activity days," I usually end up crashing straight into bed afterward. I can't even imagine being one of those people who goes for a morning run and then feels "refreshed" for the rest of the day. For me, before that crash hits, I'm basically useless for the whole day...
The worst part is my primary care doctor just brushes it off. He’s like, "Oh, that high bilirubin? It's nothing. You're just imagining things, probably just some passing depression..."
Anyone else gone through this?!
