Forum as a newsfeed?

Since I’ve spent most of my life glued to RSS feeds and newsreaders, I find the cluttered, disorganized layout of massive forum threads absolutely infuriating—especially that endless, linear scrolling where everyone just replies to the last person in a single, messy chain... 😕
Has anyone stumbled upon a forum that actually utilizes a proper nested thread tree and functions more like a
newsreader—where you can click a specific post and have it pop open in its own dedicated pane or window?
Is this kind of functionality something that requires custom coding from scratch, or is there an existing platform out there that just needs some light
tweaking or configuration?
Or am I just blaming the forum design itself? Maybe that's a stupid question to ask.

You can actually switch this forum over to "tree mode"—if you look right above your post, there’s a "display options" menu.

I'm not totally sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but give it a shot 🤷
