Do you ever experience those stretches of time where even the simplest tasks seem to fail, almost as if Murphy's Law has decided to personally target you; and then, conversely, there are periods where luck seems to follow you in such an improbable sequence of coincidences that it feels surreal?

I’m currently navigating one of those days—specifically, a "bad day," though they can certainly escalate to being terrible or even catastrophic; this one is just mediocre, designed specifically to ensure I don't feel particularly lucky today.

It started when a small metal piece from a pipe dropped into a container under my radiator—there's a slight leak in the line that I've been directing into a tray, a lingering consequence of a much worse day recently—and the clatter was loud enough to jar me awake at 5:45 AM. It took me a while to actually shake off the sleep, and I spent most of the time tossing and turning until about 6:15, at which point I realized there was no point in trying to nap for fifteen minutes since I have to be up by 6:30 anyway... and usually, a minor hiccup like that early on is a telltale sign that a bad day is underway.
The next thing happened while I was getting ready for work; I wanted to transfer a file from my Mac to a flash drive so I could finish some work at the office... and of course, the computer powers on, but the screen looks like someone took a sledgehammer to the interface in DOS mode. The culprit is my graphics card, which isn't seating quite right in its slot due to some loose casing screws... yet everything had been working perfectly for a week, and I hadn't moved the tower since I last used it yesterday evening. Why did it have to glitch out specifically this morning? Naturally, I couldn't access my document.
I headed out for the bus, and everything went fine until the end of the trip; the morning commute was crowded, but I managed to snag a spot right by the doors with just a couple of people between me and the exit. When the bus pulled into my stop, some woman started pushing through the crowd from the other side and wedged herself right in front of me at the door. I assumed she was trying to get off because she looked so flustered just before we stopped, so I waited patiently behind her, letting her navigate the steps... but she didn't move. She had simply positioned herself at the exit to be the first one out at the *next* stop! I only realized this at the very last second, having to shove past to get off. This doesn't normally happen to me; usually, people are polite enough to make room when someone is exiting. This was just the extreme manifestation of a bad day.
I walk into the office and head for coffee. While I wouldn't classify running into everyone I’d rather avoid at 7:30 AM as a defining feature of a bad day, it felt as though every single one of them had coincidentally decided to show up at the exact same time today.
Then, as I’m walking back toward my desk with my coffee, I manage to spill most of it onto the saucer.
I get to my desk and boot up the computer... and naturally, of all times, the system hangs during the macOS login, with that eternal loading bar spinning endlessly under the logo. This is not something that happens to me regularly... I eventually had to restart, and it finally worked.

It’s only 8:00 AM and I’m already feeling pretty low.
And these cycles tend to occur with a fairly predictable regularity for me.

Do you guys deal with these kinds of days or stretches, and if so, do you think there's a reason for them?
I've come to accept that my misfortune might just be genetic; I inherited this streak of bad luck from my mother, who deals with similar patterns.

PS
Please don't start with the "be glad it wasn't worse, like getting hit by a car" routine.
I explicitly called this a "bad day"... getting hit by a car would fall under the category of a "terrible" or "catastrophic" day, and I have no reason to feel "lucky" that today isn't one of those.

I completely get where you're coming from. Honestly, I don't think there's a single soul out there who hasn't gone through phases like this.
It’s probably just some sort of cosmic balance, isn't it? How could we ever truly recognize the good days if we didn't have the bad ones to compare them to—or vice versa?

A truly bad day is when you find yourself flipping your car over on the highway, or some idiot slams into your bumper doing 75 mph.
That's some straight-up bullshit.

Look, we all have those "bad days"... it's just that for some people, they hit a lot harder than others. 😁
Thank God the week is finally winding down; at least the mistakes are starting to taper off... ☕

For me, once things start sliding, it’s never just one bad day. It’s usually an entire week of pure misery. Just one disaster after another...

I honestly just hate feeling this helpless and pathetic sometimes, like when one little thing just completely wrecks my entire day 😠

- No, you don't know how I feel because you aren't sick.

- But I am.

- So it isn't just a cold?

- Oh, it was yesterday, but I took some Advil today.

Is that all there is to it?👋 🤣

Dammit, I guess that’s just how my whole life has played out. 😁

No, seriously... this happens to me more often than I’d care to admit—I think I might just be a magnet for bad luck. Next time it happens, I promise I'll walk you all through the messy chain of events. 👋
