Grab the driver for Windows XP, unzip the folder, and just run Setup.exe (that's usually what they call it). The installer should handle everything automatically. Installing the audio shouldn't cause any extra headaches. Do the exact same thing for the other onboard components.

There is no setup file, and when I try to run any of the installers, absolutely nothing happens!

Setup, Install—it’s all the same thing. You should have just run the installation and loaded the drivers. Doesn't matter though; if you already unpacked them, just head into the Device Manager and look for that question mark under Other Devices. It'll probably say Audio Controller. Right-click it, hit Properties, and then pick Install, Reinstall, or Update driver—whatever the menu throws at you. From there, just select "Install from a specific location" and point it to the folder where you unzipped those drivers. Windows will find them, and you're done.

Still, I'm thinking the Install process really should have handled all that automatically.

Honestly, even if you already unpacked everything, just jump into the Device Manager and look for that little question mark under Other Devices—it'll probably be labeled as an audio Controller. Just right-click that, hit Properties, and then choose Install, Reinstall, or Update driver—whatever the menu throws at you. From there, pick "Install from a specific location" and point it directly to the folder where you unzipped those drivers. Windows will sniff them out and boom, you're done.

But I still think a proper Install should have handled all of this automatically without all the headache.

where the hell is the Device Manager?

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager

Or just right-click My Computer, hit Properties, then go to Hardware -> Device Manager

Let me guess, you didn't even bother to restart after the installation?
