How do I install XP on top of Windows Vista?
I really don't want to wipe out my Vista installation because I desperately need XP to run these two specific programs that just won't work on Windows Vista,
I want Vista to stay as my main default Windows, so is there any way to get XP running while Vista is already up and active,
I’m looking to do a standard installation of XP—and please, I definitely don't want to deal with a virtual machine or VMware (so no virtual machines, please!)

I'm planning on carving out a partition for XP of maybe about 15 GB or so, since I won't be doing much on it anyway.

I want Vista to remain my primary operating system. Is there any way to install XP while Vista is currently running?
I'm looking for a standard installation; I don't want to deal with Virtual PC or VMware (so, no virtual machines here).

I'll set aside a partition of about 15 GB for XP since I won't be doing much on it anyway.

It's pretty straightforward—just create two partitions, keep Vista on one and XP on the other, and you're all set.

Man, it's actually not that simple because everyone keeps telling me I have to install the older OS first before moving to the newer one.
But I really don't want to wipe my Windows Vista installation—I’m trying to run the new one right over the top of it.
Could anyone who's actually pulled this off tell me the exact steps I should follow?

I need Windows Vista to be the main OS by default.
