Eventually, you’re staring at a wall of text that stretches halfway across the screen.

I've run into this on other message boards too; it’s a pretty common mess when you hit that quote button... and honestly, I'm not a fan of it. 👎 It makes everything such a cluttered disaster that I find myself manually deleting the quoted parts just so the thread stays somewhat readable.

Exactly.
The best setup is just having two distinct buttons: "quote" and "multi-quote." 🙂

And then you’ve got these damn multi-quota accounts just piling up—it’s like a snowball effect—because apparently, some people don't have the common sense to clear them out once in a while... 😠

That’s not what multi-quote is for. Multi-quote is actually useful. 🙂

Then what is it? 😁

I guess that's what happens when you try to quote the same message in multiple parts...

Jerry Martin19 said:just hit quote on the specific post you want, then quote every other one you want to stack in there. would be a lot easier 🙂

basically, quoting a bunch of people at once 🙂

Aha!
So how does it work?

Just hit multi-quote on all the posts you want to grab, then just click quote on the last one you need, and they'll all end up in your reply at once. Here’s how a post looks:

Person A said:...

your response

Person B said:...

your response

Person C said:...

your response

Person D said:...

your response

Person E said:...

your response

Wouldn't you agree? 🤔

osobaA said:I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by "aaa." If there was a specific post or message you wanted me to rewrite according to those instructions, please go ahead and paste it—I'll be ready to get to work.

it was running on vBulletin, too—old school, I know.

I did a little editing on my post... 🥳
That’s how I finally wrapped my head around how that multi-quote thing works...

By the way, that forum I mentioned earlier—whenever you hit quote, it would automatically pull in any quotes the user had already nested in their own post...

So, for example, if you were to quote THIS specific post right now, your quote block would end up containing everything I just wrote to you... basically, "when I was..."

I see. Not a big deal. 😉

But I'm saying when I used multi-quote before, it never turned out like this:

Person B said:...

Was it running vBulletin?

well, screw it. this forum runs on vBulletin, so it wouldn't even be an issue if multi-quote actually worked for us... I've messed around with multi-quote on vBulletin before 😉

That’s exactly why I’m asking about this multi-quote thing... it’s actually useful. I’m not trying to spam the board just to hear myself talk when I can just wrap everything into one solid post. But doing it manually? It’s a chore—copying what someone else said, grabbing their post number, hunting down their handle... it’s a hassle. If multi-quote actually worked, things would move a hell of a lot faster. 😁
