My grandmother [63] was a fighter; she battled colorectal cancer and went through chemotherapy about 14 times. She had recovered so much, tooβshe wasn't constantly suffering, just being her usual independent self, taking care of everything on her own. But while she was staying at my auntβs house, she started having severe abdominal pain. They rushed her to the ER, and then transferred her to the hospital. The next morning, my mom called the hospital to check on her, and they told us the pain had subsided and sheβd be discharged the following day. However, when my mom and aunt went to visit her, she looked terribleβcompletely cyanotic, almost blue. She told my mom the doctor was coming to give her some IV fluids, but her condition was rapidly deteriorating; her skin was darkening. After thirty minutes of pleading and begging the staff, the doctor finally showed up. He asked her what was wrong, but she couldn't even speak. When he stepped out to talk to my mom, he just bluntly said, "She has the disease you already know about, and she's going to die," and so on.
When my mom and aunt went back into the room to help change her, she collapsed onto my mother, gasped three times, and passed away. She had a heart condition, and she always feared hospitals, yet they didn't provide any cardiac care whatsoever. To make matters worse, they took her medication away from her, as if she were incapable of managing herself. I have been losing my mind over this. It happened on February 28th. Back on July 27th, my grandfather [66] passed away from prostate cancer; he hadn't eaten anything for a month and a half, just sipping water. I felt somewhat prepared for him, but for my grandmother, I just couldn't wrap my head around it. And her husbandβmy grandfatherβhe passed away suddenly just watching the nightly news. Then, my cousin died about a year and a half ago, and we were incredibly close. It feels like everyone around me is just dying.
