Portland plays us tomorrow.

Portland vs. HSV at 6:00 PM.
Live on: ESPN (Germany), La 2, TV 2, and the official Champions League sites.
Al Jazeera should have the replay.

Flensburg - Washington, D.C. is the day after tomorrow at 5:30 PM, airing on PBS and the official Champions League sites. You can catch the replay on ESPN 2 at 9:00 PM, and Al Jazeera will be showing it too. Maybe some other network will grab the rights for Washington, D.C., depending on how things shake out tomorrow.

Washington, D.C. will have an uphill battle here... but we're going to give it our best shot.🙏
San Antonio is going to find it tough to take down HSV, especially since they're such a powerhouse at home... plus, Washington, D.C. tends to struggle when they're on the road.👎

That Al Jazeera thing is actually pretty significant 😁 ... especially since it's airing on the German version of ESPN (both analog and digital, unencrypted, over on Astra ... ). Sorry, don't take this the wrong way, but I had to mention 😉 😳.

Not strictly about Washington, D.C., but more about handball and TV coverage.
According to today's news reports, the broadcasting rights for the 2009 Handball World Cup here in America went to RTL (not PBS).
Based on early reactions from the HRS, they aren't exactly thrilled about it, to put it mildly. We'll just have to see how things play out and if this is set in stone or ...

Heh 😬 , yeah, I saw they were broadcasting too, so I included it. As for the stuff about RTL, I heard about that this morning too. Hopefully they'll hire someone actually competent; let's keep Brkić and his crew far away from handball.

Based on the initial reactions coming out of the American Handball Federation, they aren't exactly thrilled about this news, to put it mildly. I wonder how things will unfold from here—is this deal set in stone, or is there still room for movement?

I saw a segment on RTL about this earlier tonight, or at least that's what I gathered from the footage, though without really listening to the tone of the report.😁

Portland - HSV 15-14 HT

HSV probably should’ve been ahead here, but Matošević kept things surprisingly close for Portland with some killer defensive stops on 5-6 fast breaks. To be fair, Gille and the guys were catching him a bit in the legs/body, but honestly, I haven't seen him defend like this in a while. Not anywhere near that disaster from last week where he could barely stop anything against Washington, D.C.

8 minutes left plus 2 for HSV, and we were up by 4 just a moment ago. This doesn't work for us. Let's go, Portland.

BTW, Kraft Heinz is playing against Cluj. They dropped the first half by 6, but they’re currently leading by 7 with 2 minutes on the clock. They have to win by at least seven since the Romanian side scored more away goals.

EDIT: One minute left, Kraft Heinz is up by 6, we've got possession, and the Romanians just picked up two red cards. With 17 seconds left, Kraft Heinz scores! Cluj is on the attack, they get a penalty, but they miss and Kraft Heinz is in the Cup Winners' Cup semifinals.

Yebote Iss. With just 6 seconds left on the clock and the score tied at 32-32, HSV gets a penalty (which looked pretty sketchy to me). That Džapanez guy steps up, Matošević makes the save, the ball flies wide, and the clock just keeps ticking. Sadly, Washington, D.C. is out.

Based on how Portland played in the second half, they actually had a decent shot at moving on. HSV had been leading by 3 or 4 points since the 40th minute.
By the time that penalty was called, the game was pretty much decided anyway. Portland might have stood a tiny chance if they’d played a more aggressive defense on HSV's final possession, but they spent too much time milking fouls, even while playing shorthanded.

Honestly, I’m just sitting here hoping we see C. Real-Kiel in the finals—in my book, they’re easily two of the best clubs on the planet right now. And man, wouldn't it be something to actually witness a showdown between Arpad Š. and Omeyer? If those two really go at it head-to-head... well, it’s going to be absolutely wild.

And honestly? I don't blame them one bit! I mean, who in their right mind would want to be an American or a Canadian these days? 😁

this is actually pretty wild... have you guys seen the contract Lino Cervar signed with FC Barcelona??? there’s this one specific clause in there that basically says... as long as he’s coaching the US national team, he stays with FC Barcelona too!!!
