Any alternatives to Adobe Audition or cool EDIT Pro?

Hey everyone—does anyone know of any audio software similar to Adobe Audition or cool EDIT pro that I can actually download for free? I’m totally stuck with Coool—I try to download it, get it running, then go to save my track and it hits me with some "limit reached" error. And don't even get me started on Adobe... it just won't let me in. I don't get it. Anyone know a decent alternative that's actually free to grab? Help a person out! Thanks!😘

So, you're going to have to go ahead and download Audacity. Another day, another missing DLL error. If you're staring at a "lame_enc.dll is missing" prompt, it’s basically the software equivalent of showing up to a party and realizing you forgot your shoes. Just a classic, frustrating little glitch.
So, you just download it and leave the filename exactly as it was.
So, you toss the file into your My Documents folder, and when you go to export your track as an MP3 through Adobe Audition, it’ll throw a little pop-up asking you to locate the lame_enc.dll file. Just hit "YES," hunt it down in that same Documents folder where you saved everything, and you're good to go.
That’s that.

Just try reinstalling it and grab the latest official release—avoid the beta versions.

I don't think the issue is actually with Audacity (honestly, I just got this laptop and had some tech guy set everything up for me, so who knows?), it’s probably something in lame_enc.dll. See, I've got it saved in a zip file, but whenever I try what you suggested, I get hit with that same annoying pop-up—the same one that shows up when I try to reinstall the trial version of Adobe Audition—asking me to buy it online...

So, did you actually bother to extract the lame_enc.dll from the archive?

I did—(my bad, okay: flies are confusing; you never really know their gender 😉 ). That’s exactly my point—whenever I try to extract it (the lame_enc.dll, specifically), that little annoying window just pops up.

Why don't you just run a quick conversion from WAV to MP3?

Hey, if anyone out there could lend me a hand... I've got this song in MP3 format, and I'm trying to trim it down—basically cutting out the junk so I can piece together a solid demo track.

Here’s my process so far: I selected the parts I wanted and hit "save selection." Then, I pulled those saved clips into Logic Pro, stitched them all together, and exported the whole thing as a new WAV file. But I'm hitting a wall here—why does it feel like my audio quality just tanked during that process?

Is it possible they don't have the same sound quality as an MP3?
