Does anyone have recommendations for private urologists in the area? So far, I've come across Dr. Kaplan and the Urology Center. Honestly, I’m looking for a clinic that can handle kidney stone treatments directly so we don't have to deal with the long wait times and bureaucracy at the public hospitals... I did some digging on ESWL options and found that it's available privately at Salus in Miami or even over in Mexico, so is it really not an option privately here in the city? I'm also wondering if there are any private practices that perform minimally invasive procedures to remove stones—my latest scans show one stuck in my ureter...

Thanks so much!!!

From what I can gather, private clinics here in the States mostly stick to diagnostics. It’s actually pretty wild—private facilities don't seem to handle ESWL or any transurethral procedures at all. Apparently, if you want stone fragmentation done privately, you still have to go through the hospital system, essentially paying a premium for the privilege. It always seemed a bit strange to me how these hospitals maintain such a monopoly, especially since there are only two major centers in the whole city equipped with ESWL machines: I believe it's either Mount Sinai or Mayo Clinic. The public hospitals just sort their patient lists first thing in the morning and then process everyone else as they can—if you're lucky, you get seen quickly; if not, you're stuck waiting until the afternoon.

If anyone has more insight into how this works, please weigh in.

Hey everyone, does anyone have any info on this? Please speak up... I really hope it doesn't come to this, but would we seriously have to head over to Mexico just to get private care? Surely it hasn't reached that point yet...

BTW, I feel like the healthcare system is completely broken. It’s honestly tragic that I have to go begging for a connection for something we’re already paying for through our insurance. I mean, I could probably pull some strings since I used to work at that hospital, but it feels so humiliating...
